    NEW TWEEDY BROTHERS

    The New Tweedy Bros!

100% uncut psychedelia and garagey, jangly folk–rock from 1968 Originally from Portland, the New Tweedy Brothers were formed by brothers Fred and Danny Lackaff plus Dennis Fagaly and Steve Ekman. In 1966, they relocated to San Francisco, where they were part of the exploding, nascent psychedelic Ballroom scene, influencing none other than Jerry Garcia and sharing stage with bands like The Warlocks (pre–Grateful Dead), Quicksilver and Big Brother among others. Upon returning to Oregon, they self–released in 1968 their only album, housed in a striking hexagonal, over–sized silver foil cover, now a holy grail between psychedelic collectors. Innocent vocal harmonies, fuzzy bass, jangly guitars, raga sounds...

    ELLISON

    Ellison

Blastin underground hard- rock from Canada, 1971. Ultra raw guitars and lots of attitude. Think Black Sabbath and Elias Hulk!! Ellison were formed in Montreal in late 1967 by Vincent Marandola, Richard Arcand, Robert Cager and Christian Tremblay. The band started playing quite frequently in and around Montreal, and actually played a few other gigs in Quebec. They recorded their one and only LP in 1971, originally released on Trans- World Records. Here's a welcome reissue of this rare and sought- after album. Newly remastered sound. Insert with liner notes and photos. LP housed in an old- school- style tip- on sleeve. "They come across as cavemen with big amps, which of course isn't a bad thing within a heavy rock framework...One of the best hard rock LPs from anywhere in the world..." - Clark Faville

    UTHER PENDRAGON

    San Francisco Earthquake

This is the incredible story of Uther Pendragon: a lost psychedelic band from San Francisco whose music has remained buried until now. Formed in the Bay Area in 1966 as a teen garage group called Blue Fever, Uther Pendragon lasted from 1966 until 1978. During that time, the band went through different names and phases, as their music evolved from garage to psychedelia to hard-rock: they were known as Blue Fever, Timne, Hodological Mandala, Mandala, Kodiac, Justus, Pendragon…but the core of the band remained always the same: Mark Lightcap (rhythm guitar, vocals), Bruce Marelich (lead guitar, vocals) and Martin Espinosa (bass, vocals) who after finding their ultimate drummer on Mike Beers, finally settled on the Uther Pendragon name in the early 70s. But despite being in active for all that time and recording lot of tapes and demos at different studios (including their own one in Palo Alto), Uther Pendragon never released any recording at the time. They’re not even a footnote on the books about the San Francisco Sound or a small name at those psychedelic posters of the time. Nothing. It’s as if they never existed. Until now. Their complex and fascinating story, which involves winning a Bay Area Battle Of The Bands and playing with Country Joe & The Fish, recording a killer garage-psych 7” acetate in 1967, going to the legendary Pacific Sound Recording studios in 1969 to record a demo, living as a family in the same house for many years and rehearsing 7 days a week, building their own recording studio and music corporation, being managed by Craig Pedersen (Something Wild, Tripsichord Music Box), being involved in an occult-themed rock opera called Sabbat, and much more, is being told with all details by Mike Stax from Ugly Things in the extensive liner notes.

    BOLDER DAMN

    Mourning

Absolute monster when talking about US hard- rock private pressings. Hailing from Florida, Bolder Damn released this beast in 1971. Ultra- heavy, ''raw- in- your- face'' sound with devastating fuzzed- out guitar, solid rhythm section and manic vocals. First discovered and reissued by the legendary Rockadelic label in 1990, the album has gained a cult status among new fans of 70s proto- doom & hard- rock sounds since then. After many of years of being out of print, we present the definitive vinyl reissue of ''Mourning'': original artwork, fold- out insert with liner notes / interview with singer John Anderson and rare pictures. Remastered sound. Highly recommended if you like Sabbath, Blue Cheer, Pentagram, MC5, Sainte Anthony's Fyre ''Bolder Damn produced a surprisingly assured and accomplished set of fuzz- laden bad trip boogie with a touch of proto- metal, which laid mostly unheard outside local followers of the flame until their latter day discovery'' - Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things)

    MANÇO, BARIS

    Yeni Bir Gün

The late 70s found Turkey in an economic slump, and there was a huge rise in political violence. Baris, who so often put out collections of singles, rose to the occasion by spending 6 months holed up with his longtime backing band the Kurtalan Ekspres. The result was this studio album of Anatolian bummer psychedelia, often unfairly overlooked because it came out in the rather un- cosmic year of 1979, but also considered his best work by many. Yep, there are still electrified versions of Turkish folk songs, and the spaceshot ARPs & Korgs of 2023 are here too, but dont expect a happy swing around the ceiling of a planetarium. The real star of the album is the keyboard player, whose name translates to Sword Agent. Yeni Bir Gun is viciously funky & brilliantly arranged, with tidbits stolen out of the latest disco hits, & lean, mean synthesizers that emerge from the beats like carbonated bubbles. Melancholy maqams & catastrophic Korgs collide when the Turkish psych master glides unflinchingly into the grim late 70s!! First time ever reissue, this release comes in gorgeous gatefold cover as the original, has a repro of the original poster as well, and brings an extra insert with extensive linernotes.

    SAUCEDO, RICK

    Heaven was blue

First ever legit vinyl reissue of Rick Saucedo's mind- expanding, one- man, multi- tracked private press miracle in sound from 1978 ''Heaven Was Blue'' drifts in the same sonic milieu as fellow travelers in '60s square peg joy Darius, Marcus, D.R. Hooker (without the lounge allusions), or late period psych adventurers Michael Angelo and Bobb Trimble- and his concentration and vision equals or exceeds these international underground heroes. Rick Saucedo is an internationally- known Elvis tribute artist, actor and singer- songwriter from Chicago. In 1978, after some years of doing his Elvis show, he decided he wanted to have his own identity, recording an album with his own songs. The idea of ''Heaven Was Blue'' was born while he was doing the role of Elvis in the Broadway musical ''The Legend Lives On''. Influenced by The Beatles and Pink Floyd, Rick created ''Heaven Was Blue'' for himself, as he didn't care about the music of the time. All instruments on the album were played by Rick with a couple of friends helping him out. Songs like ''Reality'', which was written in a graveyard just after the passing of Mr. Presley or ''In My Mind'', which dated back to 1967, written just after ''Sgt.

    VESCOLI, TONI

    Information

In 1970, when Swiss garage- beat band Les Sauterelles split, their leader, Toni Vescoli, decided to start a solo career. At first, inspired by Dylan, he thought of going strictly acoustic, but he soon changed his mind and, influenced by bands like King Crimson and Pink Floyd, he started incorporating psychedelic & electric elements to his sound: feedback, primitive drum machines, guitars and vocals filtered through Leslie speakers etc. He also incorporated to his repertoire some of the songs he had written for the never recorded Sauterelles concept album, Seven Deadly Sins. In 1971, Toni released his debut solo album, ?Information?. A folk- rock / psychedelic gem which reflected his influences at the time: folk, rock, psychedelia, progressive- rock? From fragile acoustic numbers to dark, wigged- out psychedelic tracks, this is highly recommended to anyone into ?CQ? era Outsiders or Frank Nuyens ?Rainman? album.

San Diegos only psychedelic cops is how this brilliant California band presented theirselves in their promo posters. Psychedelic they certainly were, though they might better be described as a British influenced garage- psychedelic band perhaps. They recorded a demo LP back in 1968, in plain white cover, which is a top rarity only living in a few of the warmest collectors? houses. Unavailable for some time now on vinyl, heres a welcome new reissue of this powerful organ- guitar garage rock beauty. Comes in a silk- screened fabric bag, insert and 180g vinyl. GRUPO AMIGOS

    Paloma mensajera

Originally released as a demo pressing in 1973, ''Paloma Mensajera'' by Peruvian band Grupo Amigos is without doubt one of the rarest albums from the South American psych scene. Only a handful of copies were pressed for the band members and needless to say, an original copy is impossible to find now. The band was formed by some long- time friends of Saúl and Manuel Cornejo, both from legendary Peruvian bands Laghonia and We All Together. Manuel Cornejo played drums on the album recordings and Saúl was the session engineer. Influenced by groups like Beatles, Byrds, Stones, Badfinger, Shakers and of course Laghonia and We All Together, the music ranges from terrific guitar psych- rock like ''Dirty Girl'' (which sounds like an outtake from Laghonia's first album) to British sounding pop- psych (''Mr. Taylor's Train'', ''Psychiatrist'') harmony pop á la Byrds on ''Looking for home'', a few rockin' tunes and some beautiful mid- tempos which show their We All Together influence. They alternate English & Spanish in their lyrics.

    A new light shines

Ray McKay Pierle started recording his own songs in 1974 and in 1977 he released his first album, ?Into You?, which is one of the finest West Coast / rural- rock private pressing ever. ?A New Light Shines? collects previously unreleased tracks recorded at home between 1974 and 1979. The overall sound here is more psychedelic, raw and loose than what you can hear on his other albums, ?Into You? and ?Take Two? but you can expect the same kind of laid- back sound, top- level songwriting, Neil Young- esque vocals and outlaw guitars. An exciting find for any lover of West Coast / Psychedelia / Rural- Rock / Obscure US private press sounds!

    SCHIBBINZ

    Livin' free

In 1967, a bunch of US and Argentinean kids recorded a magical album which has remained unknown for many years due to its extreme rarity, with less than a handful known copies to exist. Released in 1968 in Argentina by a label called Phonexa, the Schibbinz album could be regarded as the ultimate teen garage folk- rock album ever. An album of fragile beauty, full of teen charm, innocent vocals, jangly guitars, charming lo- fi sound and lost- in- time atmosphere. It has the look and sound that can only be found on some USA 60s private pressings like Rising Storm or Summer Sounds. But Schibbinz music is something else. So now we're proud to present this wonderful and mega- rare album to the world, in a production counting with the band's involvement and assistance. Master tapes are lost, but the sound has been carefully remastered from an original near mint copy. Extensive, detailed liner notes and lots of cool pictures from the band's archives are all included in a 4 page insert.

WE THE PEOPLE / AMERICAN ZOO

    Visions of time: Complete Recordings

We present the amazing story of We The People, a 60s teen band from L.A (not to be confused with the other band with the same name from Florida) who created an amazing blend of garage, folk- rock & psychedelic sounds. Between 1967 and 1968, the band, comprised of four young kids, recorded a few 45s for the Reena label, two of them released under the American Zoo name. Despite their young age, the band members were accomplished musicians / songwriters. They debuted in 1967 with ''Feelings of my emptiness'' / ''For no one to see'', two amazing pieces of moody garage with superb vocal harmonies and arrangements. Their second 45, ''Back Street Thoughts'' / ''Who Am I?'' offered two pieces of introspective psychedelia with some over the top tape/echo effects courtesy of Dal Kacher, a session guitar player and sound engineer who had been part of early Mothers Of Invention. ''Who Am I?'' was included decades later in ''Diminishing Returns'', a famous psych mix by DJ Shadow. In 1968, the group released their third 45, this time under the American Zoo name: ''Mr. Brotherhood'' / ''Magdalena'' were another two examples of outstanding garage- psychedelia.

    COOLEY - MUNSON

    In debt

Bill Cooley and Alan Munson were two friends in Santa Barbara, California, living their early twenties writing folk- rock songs for their pleasure. That was 1972, and they decided to put these songs into studio, autoproduce the album and press a tiny quantity of 500 pieces hoping it could help getting a contract with a major company. This never happened, and as you would have guessed, this fact helped to make their sole album, ?In Debt?, a major collectable item with the folk- rock and psychedelic rock listeners and collectors. Today, original copies of this record fetch quite interesting sums when changing hands in record fairs or internet auctions. Being a private pressing, you can easily imagine its not a big production, but no care. This album has the right feel and you won?t need anything else to make it one of your recent faves. All tracks are original compositions, and the style is very personal. Its folk- rock, but many tracks are quite psychedelic too, in their own way. But don?t look close for influences, they will not come to mind that easily?. Bill and Alan had their own psychedelic folk- rock style, and the raw, sometimes amateurish feel that these recordings have, give the album the final distinctive touch. Never reissued before in any format, now here we come with a splendid reissue, with the collaboration of the guys.

    HARBINGER

    Second coming

Unknown to most 60s/70s collectors until its discovery a few years ago, this is the beyond rare second album released by loner/downer folk legend Dave Bixby, recorded around the same year as his first one, the now famous ?Ode to Quetzalcoatl?. Musically is equally as good and very similar to the first one but this time the recording took place in a professional studio, so the sound is improved. Bixby is joined by Brian MacInness on guitar, Sandy Johnson on vocals and Don DeGraaf on bass and production duties. Don was in fact leader of the, in the end, religious destructive cult known as The Group, of which Bixby and Brian were part of. The sound is more up- front and the songs are slightly optimistic compared to the ones on Ode to Quetzalcoatl. There's plenty of acoustic 12- string raga guitars and harmony male/female vocals. The lyrics deal with cosmic imagery, psychedelics and religious/biblical references but this goes much deeper than any Xian record. Features titles like Cosmic energy, Time to clear your mind, Rainbow, Circus World. Reissued for the first time under license from Dave Bixby. Features carefully remastered sound from a clean vinyl (no master tapes exists) done at Shadoks Music Studios, and an insert with extensive and detailed liner notes by Matvei Procak - the guy who found Bixby in 2006 - plus some rare pictures.

    MCKAY

    Into you take two

In 2013 we released the celebrated ''A New Light Shines'' by McKay, an album comprised of unreleased recordings by this master of rural psychedelic sounds. ''Into You (Take Two)'' includes previously unreleased tracks recorded in 1975- 79 by the same cast of musicians who recorded ''Into You'', the legendary first McKay private album. Laid- back, rural psychedelic rock with dreamy Neil Young- Beatlesque vocal harmonies, raw fuzzed- out guitars and druggy atmosphere. Certainly the most psychedelic sounding stuff McKay ever recorded! In 1995, the now defunct OR label put out ''Into You (Take Two)'' as a limited 300 copies vinyl pressing. After many years out of print, we present a new vinyl edition of this amazing album.

    WICKED LADY

    Psychotic overkill

Second volume to complete the anthology of Wicked Lady recordings, their final tracks recorded in 1972, just before the band split up and guitarist Martin Weaver left for Dark (of ''Round the edges'' fame). Another batch of excessive, over- the- top doomy psychedelic hard- rock including underground classics like ''I'm a freak'' and the 21 minute epic ''Ship of ghosts''.

    DERDIYOKLAR IKILISI

    Çoban Mamos

Turkish Bar or Bengi folk dancing requires approximately 100 people to do properly, and it helps if a lot of them are eating wedding cake. You put your arms around the shoulders of the people on either side of you, and then stomp around in a circle, facing in and kicking the air, until everybody is exhausted and happy. Far away from any folklore festivals, Derdiyoklar hand- built the soundtrack to this dancing as it was drunkenly executed by luckless German- Turkish immigrants in the fashion- insensitive 80s. And though the band had only two members, they decided electric saz, synthesized drums, cimbalom, and sheep sound effects were all needed to get the job done. Who could argue? This tinkly and psychoactive album, full of uniquely odd overdubs and buzzy, flanged- out guitar solos, can now be yours. First time ever reissue. Sound taken from mastertapes, insert with liner notes, 180gr vinyl.

    HIGH SPEED & AFFLICTED MAN

    Get stoned ezy

In 1982, the mysterious Steve Hall, a self- proclaimed ?hippie- punk? who had previously released a couple of D.I.Y basement- punk albums with his band Afflicted Man, recorded one of the most obscure, underrated and KILLER heavy- psych albums of all time. Credited to High Speed & Afflicted Man, ?Get Stoned Ezy? consists of three long tracks of late 60s / early 70s influenced psychedelic hard- rock. A fuzz- wah assault of epic proportions in the style of other guitar- damage Gods like Human Instinct, Wicked Lady, Hendrix, High Rise, Sabbath, Stooges, etc, all played with a real acid- punk attitude.

    MISTY HUSH REVIVAL

    Your heart is broken

Here's one the most obscure US private pressings from the late 60s / early 70s. For many years, The Misty Hush Revival name was only a rumour whispered in collector's circles, with only a handful copies known of the original album around today. Like The Bachs or The Index, this is one of those hard to describe albums which seem to live in a world of their own. Despite the late '72 release date, the music here sounds more late 60s than early 70s and the whole album has a cool, lost- in- time atmosphere. The group were in fact a club band from Staten Island but surprisingly all the tracks are originals, no cover versions, and they range from fragile, dreamy pop- psych numbers to raw garage, fuzzed- out jams and teen- beat sounds. Like Patrick Lundborg says on Acid Archives: ''A cool, atmospheric trip for fans of the tri- state late '60s club sound''
