    The Fine Game Of Nil

[engl] Some Animals As Leaders/Plini type bullshit, but actually pretty tasteful for once. The songwriting isn't constrained to the usual Holdsworth-fusion and djent modes, either - for example, about a minute into my favorite track But With a Whimper, there's some aggressive blasting that almost sounds like atmo-black. In other songs like Nine Meals to Anarchism the introspective moods and trance-inducing rhythmic spirals remind me of old-school instrumental prog metal like Kopecky. The jammed-out sound of those chiller compositions is really odd, by the way, given that this is a one-man project." Second solo-album by Owen. 2XLP limited to 150 copies (coloured vinyl) and each cover uniquely handpainted by Owen himself!

    FUCKUISMYNAME

    Dying to meet you

[engl] Debut by new german band (from Trier and Cologne) with 4 songs that sound like... well, maybe like LES SAVY FAV as on their 7"s, and with an organ added? Or like the PANTHERS, but less noisey and more melodic? Something like this - but whatever, definitely as cool as the band-name (and we think the name is pretty cool!). Features ex-members of the OLIVER TWIST, PHILLIPPE and MARV & THE ALABAMA MURDER.

    GVLLS

    st EP

Pogo mag die The Sound Momente. Der Na?chste hört vielleicht nur Rauschen.

    HAPPY EVER AFTER

    s/t

[engl] Limited edition of 150 handnumbered copies with two-color screenprinted sleeves! Features all the recorded material by this short-living but truly amazing band. Both tracks from their 7"single, the song from the split-7" with 2BAD, the song from the "X-PRESS" compilation LP, all released during 1989/1990 – and as a special bonus, one previously unreleased track! Insert with linernotes and photos included. So who was this band anyway? It was Andy (drums) and Armin (bass), formerly in SKEEZICKS, Ute (guitar) formerly in APES OF WRATH, and Jason Honea, former singer with SOCIAL UNREST, staying for a while in Germany after their European tour. But their sound was completely different to any of those bands. Maybe and mostly influenced at that time by SONIC YOUTH, STEEL POLE BATHTUB, and the GERMS... They existed only for about a year, played a few shows, and recorded these songs, before Jason went back to the US again. And most of all, they were ahead of their times! So then, 25 years later, this very special reissue comes right in time – and it's definitely worth being our 100th anniversary release! And the first 50 copies come with a three-color silkscreened poster additionally!

    HEXDEBT

    Rule of Four

[engl] Rule of Four is the culmination of two years of writing from the Naarm/ Melbourne-based post-punk band, HEXDEBT. Coming in at just over two minutes, HEXDEBT's latest single 'Loops' showcases their core essence - Agnes Whalan's urgent vocals timing on off-beats of the steady rhythmic section, with Aife Larkin's delicate, melodic guitar work of layering over all. With energy growing in a steady uprise, culminating in a call and response ("Lapse! What you did!"), 'Loops' explores the work we do to break specific habits, and the relapses that often come with it. Across the 10 tracks on Rule of Four, HEXDEBT - Agnes Whalan (vocals/guitar), Aife Larkin (guitar/vocals), Isobel D'Cruz Barnes (bass/vocals), Lucy Fry (drums/vocals) - traverse the trials of life and the hurtful, systemic issues and ideas that the band are faced with every day, side by side with their communities. The evolution and hopeful deconstruction of archaic systems of power ('Era', 'Visions'), the monetisation of personal pleasure and social capital ('Stakes'), autonomy over the self, the painful stifling of oppressed voices ('Covenant', 'Ekhos') and the passing of time ('Fossilise', 'Exodus'). Guided by their rhythmic, forceful, and delicate musicianship, HEXDEBT manage to balance the beautiful with the confronting with the wisdom and poise of a band well beyond their years. They stand unified on their brilliant debut album, storming the battlefield to face each painful point. HEXDEBT have been carving their place through their puncturing live show and 2017 single 'Bitch Rising', named Single of the Week in Beat Magazine and heralded as "a blindsiding run of blistering, Sabbath-like fury." As well as featuring at a string of national festivals including MONA FOMA, Gizzfest (curated by King Gizzard & The Wizard Lizard), I OH YOU's Melbourne Music Week party and upcoming slots at Boogie and Brunswick Music Festival, Hexdebt curate their annual HEXFEST event, which sold out both levels of The Gasometer in November. "If that sounds like heavy lifting for a young band's very first album, HEXDEBT's acid-laced material so far proves that they're very much up for the challenge." - Weirdo Wasteland

[engl] First release by this new band from Los Angeles, with 2 exclusive songs recorded at Big Fish Studios, San Diego. Features ex- and current members of the BAD DUDES, BIPOLAR BEAR aka TURRKS, and SILVER DAGGERS. Maybe they sound anything like these, or maybe not... Our initial thought was it sounds like "STEEL POLE BATH TUB meets LES SAVY FAV". Someone else said it's like "a LES SAVY FAV song interpreted by KARP". And another one claimed it's reminiscent of SUPERCONDUCTOR (as on "Hit Songs For Girls"). If you're unfamiliar with any of these references, then you may think as well of something like being stuck in between DEERHOOF and DEERHUNTER... HOSTAGES OF AYATOLLAH

    AntHOAlogy

[engl] The anthology by the HOSTAGES OF AYATOLLAH, one of FIRST german Hardcore-bands, along with the SPERMBIRDS and SKEEZICKS, influenced by the US/Skate&Thrash-Punk! Timeless classic stuff, that’s still amazing and thrilling to listen to after more than 20 years! The HOSTAGES OF AYATOLLAH came from Velbert and took the german scene by storm with their self-released and self-titled 7”EP in 1985 (later repressed on WESER LABEL). All of the tracks from this legendary classic EP, and the songs from the following “Kaaba Kaaba Hey” split-LP MANSON YOUTH (released in 1986 on ZORO RECORDS) are included on this re-issue! Both records are extremely rare and highly-sought after collectible items!!! Fantastically great songs, and in our humble opinion some of the BEST stuff to come out of Germany EVER! Furthermore there are previously unreleased tracks taken from early demo-tapes on this double-vinyl, and additionally to that, the best songs taken from their LP “Simply Too Much Nothing” recorded and released in 1988, shortly before they broke up. Guitarist Jacho aka Johnny Bottrop then moved to Berlin, and later played in a not-so-unknown band called TERRORGRUPPE... As a bonus addition to this double-LP (featuring 32 songs in full!) comes a DVD enclosed, containing videos, live-material and excerpts from the obscure, never finished and never released “Farmer Punks In Love” movie by famous photographer Ar/Gee Gleim! Added as well, a booklet with lyrics, photos and linernotes on 8 pages in LP-size format! And on top of all that, with the first 500 copies there’s a coupon included for a free mp3-download of the entire album!

    INUTILI

    Elves, Red Sprites, Blue Jets

[engl] Elves, Red Sprites, Blue Jets is the third full length album from Inutile. Emerging from the vibrant rock scene in Teramo, Italy they continue to change, without completely abandoning their peculiar character. In their new songs, the tracks are less dilated. Improvisation is channelled in a form closer to the classic song, but in practice every track is different. There are still passages of epic psychedelia that could and SHOULD go on forever but the real news is the addiction of the sinewy vocals, half-sung, half-grumbled. This CD version has six bonus songs that show the various ways that the band is testing new mutations. Elves, Red Sprites, Blue Jets is idiosyncratic, primal and euphoric and yet somehow manages to stay catchy.

    JUPITER LION

    Brighter

[engl] Jupiter Lion to release ‘Brighter’ the highly anticipated follow-up to ‘Silver Mouth’ this September. Originating from the Mediterranean coast, the trio of Jupiter Lion appears to be an outlander in the city of Valencia. Washing ashore on a wave of ethere- al melody and tidal drones, the band is a noticeably different presence from the dance floor fare that is omnipresent on the sandy beaches of Spain. 2013’s ‘Silver Mouth’ (Bcore) was a hypnotic chronicle of kraut rock influ- ences and experimental pop, and the upcoming ‘Brighter’ takes psychedelia into a realm of analog electronics that few bands could ever follow. But Jupiter is not about repeating themselves, which is why they bravely pilot a reinvent- ed sound where jazz, techno, and post punk collide on a timeline still not requiring computer instrumentation. On ‘Brighter’ Jupiter Lion’s analog keyboards forsake presets, and defy con- vention with a zapping pulse or shimmering brilliance that makes other synth bands seem lazy for their impersonate sound. The elongated track length of the single, “Your God Is A Human” draws comparisons that bridge both past and future in an affect that is utterly phantasmagoric. Featuring a progression that is as musically adventurous as France’s Magma in the 1970s, the single in addition presents an present-day aesthetic as updated as Portland’s Copy. After a brief hiatus, Jupiter returned this past summer to share the stage with Neutral Milk Hotel, and Godspeed You Black Emperor at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound. Completed tour runs with Spectrum and Dead Skeletons are indicative of the band’s cross-over potential, assuring their station in the pantheon of futurist rock where allies will be in great supply. With the release of ‘Brighter,’ Jupiter Lion have taken a surreal trajectory of lucid synths, agile jazz rhythm and cinematic poise. Proving that when some- thing is instantly destined to be a classic, it still has one foot firmly planted in the future.

    Alice
