Deutsche Elektronische Musik. Experimental German Rock And Electronic Musik 1971-1981 Vol. 3

Deutsche Elektronische Musik. Experimental German Rock And Electronic Musik 1972-83 Vol. 2

THE B-MUSIC OF JEAN ROLLIN 1968-1973

[engl] Rising out of the smokey Parisian Mai 68 shrapnel and claiming his stake as the first French vampire movie director, the inimitable father of European Horrortica, Jean Rollin (1938-2010) has smudged the painted face of surrealist cinema for over five decades. Dragging his roots from beneath the Letterist/Situationist movements, avant-garde theatre and Belgian fine art groups and entwining them around the minds of sexual revolutionaries, the European comic book cognoscenti and the Parisian free jazz and rock scenes, Rollin stopped at nothing to bring his macabre phantasies of zygotic vampyrism and backwoods blood cults to Gallic cinematheques and beyond. Celebrating the immortal legacy of the late director Finders Keepers Records compile a detailed and comprehensive music cabinet of some of the finest musical moments from his initial directorial decade between 1968-1979, which provided a m much needed platform for the freak rock and free jazz that mirrored the distorted erotic visions in his own mind’s eye. Imagine Gong-gone-wrong meeting the Art Ensembles Of Châteauroux… Fantasy pop groups mutate and thrive within…

    Relectures (Remixes)

[engl] PILOOSKI Cédric Marszewski aka Pilooski started as a sound designer for Radio France. Later, he joined the journalists Guillaume Sorge & Clovis Goux of the D*I*R*T*Y collective. Together, they released the compilations Dirty edits and Dirty space Disco for the Tigersushi label and “Beggin”, a remix that has been used in many commercials around the world. Cédric produces Tristesse Contemporaine, Hypnolove, Perez, Discodeine, he has worked with Jarvis Cocker (Pulp), Baxter Dury, Matias Aguayo and Kevin Parker (Tame Impala). He has published numerous remixes under the name Pilooski for Bryan Ferry, LCD Soundsystem, Tame Impala, Jarvis Cocker, Nina Simone, Alain Chamfort, Mark E. Smith Von Sudenfed, also Metronomy, Yelle or Joakim, Who Made Who (with Discodeine). Cédric is Musical Artistic Director for brands such as Hermès , Christophe Lemaire, Lanvin, Bonpoint. He collaborates with advertising agencies: Saatchi & Saatchi, Publicis, BETC, Young & Rubicam, Sid Lee for worldwide advertising campaigns (Lipton, Mastercard, Clarins, Adidas, Orange, Hermès parfum, Lacoste, Balenciaga). He composed the music for Joyce A’s feature film. Nawashati’s feature film “Blind Sun”; collaborated with Les Films du trésor (“Populaire”, Régis Roinsard), Europa Corp (“Arthur et les minimoys”, Luc Besson). He is currently working on an art installation with Jarvis Cocker & Sophie Calle. A sensory tale in which music, a story, images and olfactory impressions are mixed together and disappear. Tolouse Low Trax: The ethics of Tolouse Low Trax alias Detlef Weinrich stands out in his multiple releases on labels such as Idle Press, Infiné, Karaoke Kalk, Kunstkopf, Neubau, Themes For Great Cities, Antinote or Cómeme. The German producer is no newcomer to the scene: still an active member of Kreidler and Toresch, he is the man behind the famous Düsseldorf Salon des Amateurs. His productions as Tolouse Low Trax explore Afro-baroque elegance through dark arpeggios leading to a slow and hypnotic liberation. Abschaum: Since 2010, the French trio of Abschaum, led by Chris Poincelot, has been navigating wilderness terrain. As if to better release the subtle tension of their music: a definitely krautrock heritage mixed, intrigued, blended with the influences of a raging Alan Vega. Because this heritage, its context, its aesthetics are not insignificant. Hypnotic, synthetic loops, saturated riffs and black voice, Abschaum, “vermin” in German, has cradled his ears to the sounds of Spacemen 3, Ash Ra Tempel and Can. Orestt : Boss of the label Evrlst.inc and of the famous record store of the same name in Nice, Orestt is also a rare and emeritus producer. A handful of EPs have been released under his name, notably on I’m A Cliché, Cosmo Vitelli’s label. We find him here for his first “remix” in the same vein as his productions: synthetic, dark and hypnotic.

    Artifact

[engl] A great continuation of what can be called Waveshapers signature sound with Melancholic melodies, groovy beats and spacy vibes. That said, there are many new hints and twists in sound and structure that make this one a bit darker. Without a doubt another must have from Waveshaper again, a great entry for any new listener and a multitude of songs to move your mind and body.

    X RAY POP

Pirate! The Dark Side Of The X

[engl] Micro kosmic domestic synth pop, pocket punk, French funk ultra rarity. Originally released in 1985 as a limited edition of 100 black cassette tapes. As one of the most prolific and viciously self-sufficient exponents of the early 80s French DIY/domestic synth pop scene X Ray Pop are a group who are easy to scratch the surface but almost impossible to get the bottom of. Peeping out of a warren of unexplored passages their seminal self-distributed debut singles and appearances on the genre defining alternative funk Alternative Funk Folie Distinguée compilation in 1984 made them an omnipresent fixture for the French tape wave scene that shaped a generation and influenced many more to follow. But beneath the trademark fluores- cent sleeves stands the highly stacked foundations of endless cassette only releases that give this pocket punk husband and wife duo one of the most impressive and elu- sive back catalogues of all their cut ‘n’ paste French funk contemporaries. Plundering the depths of a self-estimated 400 recorded songs, X Ray Pop founder Didier Pilot has joined up with Finders Keepers sister label Cache Cache to reassess, rescue and reis- sue some of the bands most underexposed sonic snapshots, many of which were dis- tributed in issues of less than 50 up to 500 for exclusive global releases in France, Spain, Portugal, Japan and America (where bands like Brian Ladd and Julie Frith's Psyclones and The Beastie Boys championed the band as a likeminded inspiration.) From the earliest, lower levels of the X vault Cache Cache and Pilot resurrect one of the bands finest untravelled moments in the form of the rare tape only one-sider Pirate! - a spontaneous long player comprised of raw, rhythm heavy electronic versions of exclusive tracks alongside heavier and darker industrial versions of tracks that would later creep into the bands unhinged official pop discography. Wearing their unabashed and generally incompatible influences of Can/Devo/Brigitte Bardot/Cramps/The Residents/Kraftwerk/Captain Beefheart/PIL/Brian Eno/Robert Wyattt/Gainsbourg/MAGMA proudly on their sleeves, this long lost tape captures a one day recording session which was originally released as 100 cassettes in 1985 at a time where various outside influences and competing labels were trying to snare the band into a slower more manageable pop entity. This is the sound of France’s two most highly charged battery operated cabaret cosmonauts at there hardest, loosest and uninhibited celebrating the dual-unison that can also be identified in similar two-head- ed freak funk outfits such as Moderne Mathermatiques, Stereolab, Ellie and Jacno and most notably (and perhaps unconsciously) Silver Apples to whom this release bears a welcome and femininised close comparison. Catch this limited vinyl and digipacked CD for an early glimpse of an outer-national punk funk Neo-dadaist phenomenon that may well have eluded you until now and wit- ness X Ray Pop at their most powerful. Pirate! labeled by Didier himself as The Dark Side OF The X provides a pre-curser to a forthcoming wider anthology of the groups work alternating erratic pulsating cosmic rock with dreamy metronomic private pop via their über legendary Casio-to-cassette production line. Otherwise, good luck finding an original copy, you deserve it!
