[engl] This is darkness in the right way. What I mean to say is that NOWAVES sound like they exist in a shroud and/or shrouded by smoke—sounds composed in the physical and metaphorical recesses, presentation that struggles to harness a primitive determination. NOWAVES will certainly appeal to goth revivalists with cuts like “Empty Sorrows” that focus on the synth and that ’80s dancefloor swing, but it’s all in the context of a record that mostly lands somewhere between EA80/GRAUZONE and WIPERS. Although the record is not overly layered, I notice something new every time I listen (WARREN ZEVON meets the CURE vibe on the title track, for example), which only encourages me to listen more. - MRR

[engl]  "Astronomicon features driving uptempo beats, ringing choruses, and twin-guitar harmonies that segue into improvised jams invoking the MC5 at their Sun Ra-channeling best, cruise through talkbox-laden breakdowns and finish with pulse-revving big bang crescendos. Inspiration for the tracks came from places as lofty as long summers spent working fire lookouts on remote mountaintops, to lowly as a need for cathartic musical release after inter-band fights. As its arresting cover imagery (painted by Brittany Stallings) suggests, Nudity pulls listeners to a place where the earthiest, most carnal human attributes bend around to meet supernal desires, while vouching that lovers of grit-filled Rock'n'roll get a headbanging fix. You can liken it to time travel, space travel, or space-time travel, but once on board, Nudity will take you to sonic frontiers in a style all their own. The current lineup might be their most impressive yet, bringing talent from bands such as the Tight Bro's From Way Back When, Hysterics, The Need, Sex/Vid, Broken Water and more."

[engl] Obediencia from Madrid release their debut album after two 7" singles on Solo Para Punks. Their breakout LP is filled with melancholic damp, anthemic choruses, and powerful vocal melody all hanging amongst fast moving, machinistic drums, and buzzsaw guitar work. This brings to mind some Spanish punk of the golden era like demo-era Ultimo Resorte, only having replaced the nods to rock n roll via the Pistols with a few guitar lessons from Greg Sage (Wipers). Enough guitar interplay to listen to on a cold rainy day, and enough power-chords to convince yourself you're listening to Madrid's answer to the Avengers. Standout track is the closer, "Sótano," which sees one of the few breaks in pace to bookend the uncompromising energy that came before it but overall all songs are fast paced, under three minutes with hooks galore. Fans of X, Pink Champagne, Penetration or The Observers will fall in love with this album on first listen.

[engl] "This is the sixth studio album of the long going scottish anarchist punk band ""OI POLLOI"" (ancient slang for ""The Common People"") - 15 new songs recorded in 2014 with an retrospective of the many musically influences of previous OI POLLOI records. Here you find the anarcho charged sing-a-long Oi!Punk in exchange with D-Beat-Crust and of course classic UK Anarcho Punk. ""Saorsa"" means ""Freedom"" in scottish gaelic and ""Freedom"" or ""Liberty"" is the lyrical main subject of this album. Lyrics are mostly sung in English with little excursions into Gaelic, Spanish as well as Yiddish. With all the heavy political content, OI POLLOI never excluded humor in what they do and this is what makes them so sympathic in my eyes. Responsible for the beautiful artwork was Sonia L. who already contributed to previous OI POLLOI records such as ""Fuaim Catha"". This album comes with two lyric sheets in a beautiful inside out print sleeve.

[engl] A sonic auto-da-fé, the OJO POR OJO debut LP is an exercise in modern Mexican costumbrismo. Crude and primitive, the band’s aural vomit is a sharp-eyed comment on the trip through the guts of the monster that living in Mexico City has become. Where crime and filth reigns supreme among a society driven by chronic malinchismo and constant life fear. OJO POR OJO follows the path laid out by bands such as INSERVIBLES or RATAS DEL VATICANO while borrowing heavily from Greek gods ?????????, Colombian demigods PARABELLUM and Italian deities NERORGASMO. Lacking pretence, this Stations of the Cross-like album has 10 tracks instead of 14 and is a raw portrayal of everyday life in the place where the District Federal trio live. Comes packed in a macabre masterpiece created between drummer Mico and guitarist/ vocalist Yecatl Peña which painstakingly depicts the current collective mental state of a nation. Includes a lyric sheet and a disturbing yet normalised picture, depicting a petty thief lynched by locals in Ecatepec. A seemly weekly happening in the Ciudad de Mexico.

[engl] The first thing I noticed about this Danish two-piece was the drums, or lack thereof. It sounds like someone pressed the default percussion button on a Casio keyboard and then played mostly mid-tempo hardcore over it. If they’re taking it seriously, I guess I should too, because this tape pleasantly surprised me. The cheapo drums are accompanied by heavy punk chords and damaged, LUMPY-with-a-sore-throat vocals. There is an occasional tinny solo and some feedback screech that make songs like “People are People” (especially with its sarcastic spoken vocals) sound like SACCHARINE TRUST-style weirdo HC. Throw in fast ragers like “Stay on Drugs” (“Stay on drugs / And don’t do school”) and “I Don’t Care,” and you have a solid band worth keeping an eye on. Oh, and I like the cover art. Those tigers look cool. - MRR

[engl] Old Wives return with their new album Mega Low Maniac! 13 new songs that push the boundaries of the band’s previous efforts. Although the band hasn’t forgotten the sound that brought them to the dance in the first place. Returning to helm the record was engineer/producer Greg Wright (who the band worked with on Three) and added to the fold was engineer/producer Cody Blakely. Recorded between studios in Edmonton, the band worked hard to maintain a sense of fluidity to the record with the help of mastering engineer Stu Mckillop at Rain City Records (Vancouver). The band formed such a relationship with engineer/producer Cody Blakely that he was later added to the bands lineup to fill out the guitar sound. Since joining, Cody has enabled the Old Wives to take the next step in their sound and push the boundaries of what before wasn’t possible as a three piece.

[engl] Oog Bogo is a Los Angeles based outfit oozing from the deviant mind of songwriter Kevin Boog. Boog, along with a cohort of co-conspirators, dissolve a myriad of influences from rock and punk’s outer fringe into a sodium bicarbonate solution. Heat is applied to the mixture until it congeals into a highly potent and smokable material whose idiosyncratic vocal harmonies and manic, unhinged guitar work push and pull against an unrelentingly in-the-pocket rhythm section. This tape, the 12th edition of Shout Recordings’ nefarious Beat Sessions, closely replicates the band’s live dynamic. Tracked at Golden Beat Studios in Los Angeles by Mike Kriebel and Ty Segall, the release features a collection of songs reimagined and reverse engineered from the perverse home recordings of Boog featured on the band’s previous three releases. Recorded immediately after a tour of America’s West Coast and featuring Shelby Jacobson (gtr), Kriebel (gtr), and Marley Jones (dr), the arrangements are refined in a way that only the road can and these 11 songs erupt from the speaker. The performances here are focused, sharp, and completely disturbing.

[engl] “Porque Las Drogas Son Veneno” is a limited 7” released on time for ORDEN MUNDIAL USA/Colombia Tour including some of the songs that will be in their next LP. Their EP recorded analog in Berlin with Tobias Lilli displays the chaos and sonic venom that this Mallorca outfit have us accustomed to. Four existentialist tracks of distorted hardcore tracks joined together which bring to mind the most out of control parts of UNITED MUTATIONS or VOID with the in unapologetic attitude of WRETCHED or SHOTGUN SOLUTION. Look in the mirror, what you see is what you hate.

[engl] Drunk punks Organized Chaos release their first ever album compiling 18 tracks from two demos from 1981 and 1982 plus the compilation tracks from Wessex 82 7” and the Riotous Assembly Compilation LP. Organized Chaos were masters of driving UK82 punk with tin pot drums, buzzsaw guitars and snarling vocals. If the band had released an album at the time they could have easily been as influential as Chaos UK or Disorder. How this band didn’t have a Riot City release is anyone’s guess. Simple meat and potatoes UK82 punk for those who still hate Thatcher, are worried about a nuclear war and despise the system.

[engl] After narrowly escaping their respective dementia units, Shapland and Nichols rendezvoused with co conspirator Mike Brannon at an abandoned bunker in Bremen, Germany during the autumn of 2013. The equipment and instruments used for the session were stolen while members evaded the authorities. Although Shapland and Nichols had been detained in separate hospitals, most of the songs were constructed telepathically prior to the session. Why Orghast (Nichols claims the name was revealed to him in a dream whilst under the influence of DMT) came together is anyones guess. The trio had been publicly slandering each other for years, having crossed paths while touring with reviled underground music pariahs Cross Stitched Eyes/Zygote/Defekt Defekt (Shapland), Hanson Brothers/Fang/Plainfield (Brannon), and Hammers Of Misfortune/Jello Biafra & The Guantanamo School Of Medicine/Christ On Parade (Nichols). Shapland mixed the 5 tracks on the run, breaking in to facilities across the EU after hours. His misplaced efforts culminated with the release of ‘Every Seashell Sings of Failure’ at the end of 2020. A mysterious backer had the recordings pressed to vinyl with unknown—and undoubtably unscrupulous—intent. Disgraced punk historian Duchess Von Shelby describes the EP as “pretentious, phantasmagorical post-punk nonsense” and actively petitioned to suppress its release. (Orhast)
