    AMEN 81

    Attack of the chemtrails

AMEN 81 / NEIN NEIN NEIN

    Split

    Same

Modern Discopunks take note!

    ANARCHUS

    Defenders Of Freedom And Democracy

[engl] ANARCHUS are a star of grindcore scene in South America. Founded as long ago as in 1987 and still inexhaustibly tormenting the underground stages with their energetic grindcore pieces. In November of 1988 the first demo of the band "Total Hate" was recorded, followed in 1990 - and with Julio Alvarez in the guitar-of the first EP of the band, "Final Fall of the Gods" with Rigid Records. Both recordings get a great response in Mexico and other countries and by May of that year (1990) the band had a mini tour in Tampa Bay, Florida for the promotion of the EP playing next to bands like Assuck and Paineater. In 1991 enters Miguel Angel Cortes "Thrasher" and in 1992 Jaime "The Grandfather" in the drums. In spite of multiple complications and changes of members the band continues playing for almost all Mexico since 1988. Over the following years some of the recordings have been reedited and several compilations have also been performed. In 2004 the group carried out a very extensive and satisfactory tour of Japan From 2012 to 2015 there was again more changes in the lineup until the arrival of Luis Oropeza (who had previously been in the band,as lead guitar and with whom the band's record the first album: "Age of Consent"), Vernon Blake, Bodybag Bob and Mike Petrak. The new CD is recorded early 2017 at the MAT Studio and Masterered at Dream On Records 10 brutal grind attacks in the vein of ASSÜCK and early MISERY INDEX material. After 30 years of existence a real blast from the south american scene heroes ANARCHUS.

    ANARQUIA VERTICAL

    Sistema Total De Liberación

[engl] ANARQUÍA VERTICAL’s Sistema Total de Liberación aims to be the handbook of the ultranihilist revolution to come: think about Eskorbuto’s “anti-todo” motto becoming not just an slogan but a full gospel in the hands of five suited-up punks. The A-side contains 10 tracks of raw 80’s hardcore in the vein of Spanish and Italian traditions; think about Anti-Dogmatikss and Eskoria-Tza in one hand and Indigesti, Negazione or CCM in the other, plus some NYHC circa ‘82 like The Mad, Kraut and Heart Attack, some Deep Wound and tons of Void. The B-side contains a remix of all the tracks of the A-side in the form of a couple of dark electronic tracks courtesy of Hagal, of Destino Final's fame.

    ANNEES ZERO

    s/t

[engl] Exactly one year after the release of their first 7’’, ANNEES ZERO does it again ! Lille incendiary quintet has built a strong reputation taking no prisoners in their live acts. These representatives of a ripped and fallen world are back with a new 7’’. This new record is an alloy of rage and emergency in which the band didn’t fear to bring new influences (expect some more noise and disturbance). The incandescence spreads itself in these five pissed off hardcore tracks. The band uses these words to explain its approach : « At our own pace, we are moving forward and we are stripping ourselves to live at best in this disastrous and hostile world, and always against it. » 500 copies on black vinyl.

    ANNOTATION / BENT CROSS

    split

[engl] Hamburg citizens BENT CROSS continue with 2 more beer-spitting tracks (from the same recording session as their debut 7"). Raw, dirty and of course - no compromises. The rock is hard, high, and mighty - both tunes have teeth, and the jams are kicked the fuck out. BENT CROSS is a band that happens to party - better, they are a band that incites a party. They have the strong punk ethos in their lyrics: work sucks, get fucked, let’s rage. On the flipside ANNOTATION leaves their previous recordings in a cloud of bong smoke. They serve a kind of retro-rock that brings back memories of BLACK FLAG, BL'AST and the occasional THIN LIZZY. Both songs start out with a gnarly late '70s hard-rock riff and then it quickly becomes a straight forward hardcore-punk song. ANNOTATION make you want to grow your hair out for the sole purpose of head banging. All 4 exclusive smashers consist of simple-but-effectice three-chord riffs, spiced up with melodic lead guitar work and the sound is rough as it should and firmly along the lines of early '80s hardcore-punk bands. The songs might not have the most original progressions, but you can hear that both bands are here to throw a lean, mean live party. And there is nothing wrong with that! Where is the Beer-Bong-Party? Vinyl includes a digital download card.

    ANTAGONIZM

    Freeze Motherfuckerz

[engl] What started as a one off project for a bit of fun on the Fuzzbrain Records Compilation LP in 2019, quickly mutated into a fully fledged band made up of four UK heads with plenty under their collective belts: Ben Woolf (Blind Authority, Lawful Killing, Frame Of Mind, Stages in Faith, Layback), Bobby Cole (The Annihilated, Churchgoers), Jon Osbourne (Mastermind), and Ollie Hudd (Fortbragg Zine). When QC heard this ‘demo’ it was so in your face we just knew we had to put it on wax, because this blend of Krackdown and Outburst era NYHC with a still distinct London hardcore sound will blow your fuckin’ face off! Live expect some crazy energy and antics that’s hard as nails. Who else is gonna do a hardcore version of the James Bond theme? Stay warned, friends.

    ANTISOCIAL SKILLS / RULES

    Split

[engl] After their last EP "...was it six or five shots?" in summer 2019, RULES from Zagreb now put out 4 more brandnew songs on this split release! They stick with their dirty rocking HC/Punks-sound, though this time the songs are slightly more influenced by stoner and noise-rock. Recorded and mixed on a 4-track recorder by Goran Lautar of NEON LIES and MODERN DELUSION who also helped bands such as DEATH ROW GROUPIES, INDIKATOR B and CELETOIDS to sound amazing on their records. ANTISOCIAL SKILLS from Prague released their first self-titled 7" in 2017. Their sound is more in the vein of 80ies influenced midtempo HC/Punk with somewhat rocking elements. They added 10 songs to this record whose lyrics reflect on the solitude and hopelessness in modern society.

    ARMA X

    Violento Ritual

[engl] Arma X burst onto the hardcore scene in 2019 with a demo that made people take notice from day one, seemingly coming out of nowhere, along with a whole host of new bands from Madrid. Taking the best of heavy hardcore styles, whether it’s Cleveland Straight Edge or NYHC Beatdown, Arma X are making it their own with tunes breathing new life into the genre in their debut album, Violento Ritual. Not for the faint of heart, the band are also redefining just how many dive bombs and breakdowns you can have in one song thanks to guitarists Yoshi and Rodri, and we are here for it! Vocalist Leo sings in Spanish, because there will be no appeasing to the English speaking hardcore masses here and rightly so. The result is vocals that just get taken to another level, delivered with Leo’s huge rasping voice not too dissimilar to Integrity’s Dwid, commanding over what sounds like a straight up war zone. Lyrically Arma X rock about the Straight Edge, naturally, as a true form of outsider behaviour within punk and also dark moments of anger in one’s personal life through occult imagery. Meanwhile drummer Tania and bassist Iker waste no time in pummelling out beats you want to smash heads to in the pit. The group are all hard working members of the Madrid hardcore community keeping their local scene vibrant and inclusive for all, reflected in the band themselves. Thanks to that hard work, along with many others from this new generation, the Madrid scene has been growing from strength to strength for the past 3 years. Arma X are part of this new wave of bands and DIY ethic that is selling out local only shows and making a community that stands strong. XXX

    ARMAGEDDON CLOCK

    Armageddon macht frei

[engl] ARMS RACE follow up to their “New Wave Of British Hardcore” LP with four new tracks, which sees the band solidify their place as one of the strongest pillars of UK hardcore. Touring Europe and Japan since the release of the LP, these 4 new tracks are yet more proof of why the band leaves a trail of fans whenever they play. “The Beast” displays a ferocious hardcore attack with both boots firmly stuck on the hardcore and punk territories while looking forward to new soundscapes on which they evolve, such as on track ‘Distort Britannia’ that showcases a slowed down atmospheric stomper. Part classic USA Hardcore, part Bristol and Stoke On Trent punk, these new tracks are a perfect continuation of what the band has created during these last 5 years.

    ARSE

    Primitive Species

[engl] I am fucking psyched to bring you this 12" banger all the way from Australia. In a time the world has become a melting pot of hate, absurdity and on the brink of destruction ARSE have made a record that sums up these dark, dense and claustrophobic times. The relentless rhythm section drives the sound with guitar work that is squealing and immense alongside vocals that spit bile and razor-sharp lyrics. PRIMITIVE SPECIES is the pinnacle sound of a band that has been crafting, honing and re-imagining the way punk music should be played, with so much raw atmosphere and energy that it will probably rip you apart. Be careful. It has energy, heart and that special something you can’t put your finger on. Built on a relentless sinister thrum, a taut propulsive clatter, ARSE explode with scalding fury in the screaming guitars and tortured barks and roars echoing out of the radioactive slurry. This is ferocious hardcore/post punk, worked til its end. Noisy and incessant, but it's hella melodic all the same, so hurry up and snag this bad boy. Primitive Species just sent me three steps back on the evolutionary chain. And I am thankful for this reset!

    ARSE

    Safe Word

[engl] Hailing from dystopian Sydney, the punk rock trio known as ARSE arrived at the end of 2017 with their acerbic debut Primitive Species on a cassette tape, sounding like the bastard lineage of Feedtime and Black Flag with an uber-modern spin. Equal parts dumb, terrifying and fitting for the times, Species copped the full vinyl treatment six months later courtesy of German punk label Erste Theke Tontraeger. By years end it had crash-landed on The Quietus’ best of 2018 punk round-up alongside Hank Wood and The Hammerheads, Geld and Amyl and The Sniffers. Never content, as their music attests, ARSE have since opened for Cosmic Psychos (AU), No Age (US) and released a split seven-inch record with Sydney noise-assassins Party Dozen. The forthcoming Safe Word EP, a stop-gap on the road to long player glory, is four tracks of future-fried punk the world truly deserves. I like bands that fall on the dividing line between noise rock and hardcore, and Arse are right in that pocket, using pogo beats, wild and noisy guitar solos, and a nihilistic vocal bark that will appeal to fans of Geld, Gay Kiss, Walls, and other bands that trace their lineage back to Black Flag’s My War. Far from just a copycat band, though, Arse strike me as more artsy and ambitious than any of the aforementioned groups. I hear this in the guitar solos (which are particularly unhinged, like Ginn and Hendrix on a bunch of bad drugs), but even more on the two songs that end each side of the EP. These aren’t so much songs as abstract noise / electronic pieces that flesh out the world hinted at in those guitar leads into a full-on post-apocalyptic soundscape. Far beyond your typical “dude stringing together a bunch of guitar pedals and hitting them at random,” these intricately composed pieces scratch the same itch as Klaus Schulze or Tangerine Dream.

    AS FRIENDS RUST

    Greatest Hits?

[engl] Formed in 1996, Florida's AS FRIENDS RUST delivered energetic, melodic hardcore. Often compared to Dag Nasty or Avail, and in later years Samiam, AFR found themselves at the intersection between several genres, making them not only difficult to pigeonhole, but infectious to listen to. Fronted by Damien Moyal, also of Culture, Morning Again and (currently) On Bodies, AFR, lyrically, was endearingly honest and approachable, and - in a manner quite uncharacteristic to the hardcore scene at large - surprisingly personal. Combined with songwriting that effortlessly blended punk rawness, hardcore urgency, rock n' roll riffage and indie rock production, AFR was a refreshing break from the increasingly bland 90s hardcore scene so fraught with dogma and chugging metal. Until disbanding in 2002, AFR churned out several highly celebrated EPs and one LP, and spent every minute outside of the studio in their van, bringing anthemic singalongs to cities across the US and Europe. In 2008, AFR reunited for one show in their hometown of Gainesville, Florida, followed by a handful of shows in Europe, and in 2014 they got together again to play four shows in Japan. 2015 sees AFR returning to Europe to play the esteemed Groezrock Festival, and they'll play Brooklyn, NY on their way out of town. "The Greatest Hits?" LP release is an assortment, curated by the band, of the best material from across three lineups, six releases and six years.
