    Resilience

[engl] Just in the time for their 15 years anniversary, the protest punx from Modena (Italy) fireing back with the 4th longplayer packed with 15 songs of singalong Hc-Punk. The band was born in Modena, in 2003. It was just another young punk band with something to say and a lot of energy to explode. None of them would expect to get so far from the shore. By the way they have crossed stormy seas, they had many line-up changes, many tours, many releases, many sweat and tears but in the end they still love to hit the road and play around. No White Rag stands for “rejecting the white flag”, rejecting to give up the struggle. They started with a lot of politically charged lyrics, especially because they were influenced by all the diy and anarchist movement in Italy. For all the first decade of the century, they were fully involved into the squat “La Scintilla” in Modena where they used to organize gigs and it was a good way to deal with many bands from abroad. This thing allowed us to make a few tours in Swiss and Germany since the first years of activity. Besides the band Zanna started a diy label called Nuclear Chaos Records, that was the engine that allowed them to release all their stuff by themselves, together with many other projects like that. Since then they have recorded and produced two 7” EP and four full-length albums plus a couple of tapes.

They play powerful melodic/melancholy punk rock that is absolutely worth your full attention. The record comes in a screen-printed folder!

    NUTRITION

    No E.P.

[engl] Long-awaited (by us at least) is this follow-up to the 2018 Demo from the best fed group in so-called British Columbia - a name that gets more and more confusing to say every time I think of it. Nutrition the band. Cooking food with radiation. It's quick. It's easy. It tastes surprisingly good but it'll probably kill you in the long run. You'll die waddling in your consumption. While 1/4 of the world are starving, the rest are LIVING, BABY. Overfed on insensitivity. All varnished to excess. 'No' is 6 tracks about medication, bleak vulnerability and jabs at existence expressed in short, frantic exclamations. Is it good for you? Who cares. Does that even remotely matter right now? We know how fast life/death happens. Blink an eye. Blink again. You won't find this in your recommended diet so don't bother to even ask how it relates to your caloric intake. At least shoving these songs in your head is a lot easier and more enjoyable than oatmeal and Yoga or whatever real people do for the privilege of "self care." It says so on the fucking box. Nutrition. It's gotta be true. I wouldn't lie to you would I?

    OBSTRUKTION

    Monarchs Of Decay

[engl] Obstruktion are the latest band to declare their intentions to the world with their debut album, 'Monarchs of Decay'. Based out of Gothenburg and featuring a number of Swedish hardcore veterans and luminaries, this band have drawn influence from the music of their formative youth and have finely honed this sound using their many years of experience and cumulative musical wealth. The result is an album of utmost severity and vigour that tears through social constructs to disclose the arrogance of the privileged. The band don't strive for a particular genre/sound and instead have made sure to create something unique and fresh while still paying homage to their predecessors. Appealing to fans of Hatebreed, Bitter End, Obituary, Harm's Way and Earth Crisis, their tightly knit sound transgresses the boundaries of musical trends. There is a strict no filler approach with songs such as Monarchs of Decay hitting hard from the get-go and delivering sublime guitar solos and dive bombs. Throughout the album, there is a masterly metal and hardcore aggression produced with a timelessly heavy execution. The vocals are delivered with the same mighty power as the subject matter is through the lyrical content. Driven by Hate starts with a haunting guitar line that builds to a punishing impact, showing maturity and excellence are both present in the craft of their songwriting. With soaring guitar harmonies and tight chugging guitars, Blackened Skies maintains a heavy groove that draws you in with a neck snapping ability. Other tracks feature pounding double kick, huge breakdowns and a relentless drive that keeps the pace moving with a satisfying tempo. The album itself is a thematic body of work built around the concept of the violence of our culture and our inabilities or unwillingness to comprehend and break this cycle. With a message as intense as this, it is no wonder that the every other element from the music itself to the production and artwork all reflect this same level of darkness and aggression. Each song has been created to be overwhelming in its own way while still contributing to the record as a full entity. The overall structure and tracklisting have been carefully arranged to deliver full impact and the end result clearly manifests intensity. With a debut record of such a high standard, Obstruktion have both purpose and passion and are certainly ready for action.?

    Power To Exist

[engl] Much anticipated answer to 2011's "Blasts of Lunacy," the Omegas leave off where they picked up, coming back to their personalized vision of the nooks and crannies of early NYHC and proto hardcore cum Darby Crash cum Nollywood prankster at ever more obtuse and challenging angles. The riffs implode and the changes are impossible to follow without a map that probably leads somewhere unpleasant. Even still, the confusion feels like a stroke of luck. The gift is not knowing what you're hearing yet but knowing you've wanted to hear it your whole life. Duck, dive, spit, slam, kill: Makes you go Boom Boom. Flash forward, the power to exist. FFO: getting stop and frisked by the NYPD and having them find a giant lollypop in your otherwise empty bag/wondering who killed Tony Frenchman

    Never trust a poltican

[engl] " 3 new songs packed with no-nonsense, nasty and distorted poliical hardcore following the Dutch tradition. Oust is a band with 5 individuals that know eachother for years trough the magical world of DIY punk bands. We are based in Amsterdam and Nijmegen but one of our guitarist decided to live in Rome which is quite far away. We all played in bands before, there is a good chance we met somewhere before :) There is plenty of stuff to be angry about these days and we like to put that energy in our music, we do not believe in happy endings or a good outcome we are going straight into the abyss. That doesnt mean we love to play the music we play, playing shows and meeting our friends that we've met in all these years touring trough Europe and beyond is the reason that these things work. We started out as a very basic straight forward dbeat band but as those things go music evolves and we might get weirder and weirder by the day. We do like to stick close to our crusty hardcore souls and I guess you can hear that. We released a tape that was later re-released by our good friend Jos on beautiful creamy white vinyl, this year we will release an EP trough Sabotage and Autoreverse, we missed playing and being part of our loved community a lot during the covid-times.

    OUT ON A LIMB

    s/t

    document #5

[engl] "Erupting at two-to-three-minute intervals, the songs are steeped in dissonance, a fusion of driving melodies and eyes-rolled-into-the-back-of-your-head slow builds. Pointed and unconventionally melodic guitars combine with high intensity drums and unrelenting bass. The short sharp jagged boil of SUPER THIEF sets the air on fire, vocals jumping from spoken introspection to incendiary verbal detonations, blasting waves of intensity but never at the cost of a pervading melody or hook." – Paul Stinson "Students of the AmRep/Touch & Go school for noise rock, SUPER THIEF draw comparisons to bands like The Jesus Lizard, Hammerhead, and Tar, but their attack is more impenetrable, more persistent. There’s no lull, no restraint. When the band pull back ever so slightly from the carnage, it’s only to hammer in the reality of their earthquaking rhythms and rusted distortion." – Dan Goldin (Exploding in Sound, Post-Trash)

[engl] Do you ever sit in your room and just stare at the wall repeating a mantra to yourself? Because it’s all you can do to not totally wreck everything in sight? We do that too and most of the music that’s playing sounds like this PAPRIKA record. This is their mantra: “Destroying Shit… Ruining Lives…” To be repeated over and over while digesting this deliberately paced rampaging hardcore punk record. “Let’s Kill Punk”, with it’s massive sounding production, is all outward facing hostility projected larger than life onto you sorry public inhabitants. PARTISAN

    Savage Peace

[engl] With a creation far bigger than the sum of its parts, the 3 members that make up Partisan have produced a lavish and far-reaching album with their latest release 'Savage Peace'. Already having several other well received releases under their collective belt and with a line-up consisting of members of Oathbreaker and Rise And Fall, they have covered a lot of ground and are building on some very solid foundations with their unique amalgamation of musical styles. Although it may be easiest to sum up the band as a post-punk group, this would be doing them a massive disservice as they clearly have influences that extend far beyond those boundaries. This translates into their sound and makes for a very refreshing approach that pays homage to some of the greats from the early 80s punk scene but also allows them to break new ground while maintaining a high degree of stylistic consistency. Being seasoned veterans of the Belgian underground scene, it is clear to see how they have managed to amass such a high level of musical aptitude and translate it into their songwriting. The 8 songs on 'Savage Peace' form an accurate representation of where the band currently are in their musical journey. Being open and honest, they have shed some of the more aggressive aspects in favour of a stripped down approach yet they still manage to keep the same sense of urgency; a feature which has always been present in their sound. Part of the reason for this and adding an extra degree of natural charm is the fact that it was recorded live. This has been showcased extremely well by their well thought out production and mixing choices (Michäel Neyt, Jetson) and mastering (Jack Shirley, The Atomic Garden, San Francisco, USA). The bright sounding guitar, full bass and punchy drums create a cohesive sound upon which the vocals sit superbly. The overall balanced and rich tone gives the listener a satisfying experience and makes for a truly original sounding record. Thematically, the album explores ideas of doubt and acceptance. An extremely relatable subject matter, it not only allows the band to voice their interpretation but also lets the listener to delve into a world where they can ruminate on these topics. This existential quandary weaves an eye-opening look at the fragility of our individual and collective lives and how we navigate through these situations in order to find some sense of peace and hope.

PATSY O' HARA

    ...sings the bourgeois blues

[engl] More than 3 1/2 years after "deathinteresse" was unleashed on the hardcore-punk crowd, PATSY O'HARA have returned with their 2nd full-length, "...sings the bourgeois blues". It has everything the genre has to offer in one powerful set of 11 songs (nearly 48min.). Nothing sounds stale and they have their own distinct sound while building off the ideas of the music they love to listen to. "...sings the bourgeois blues" is a huge improvement on every level, with the group's hybrid mix of upbeat hardcore, punk, post-rock and good old fashioned rock 'n' roll - melting together to near perfection throughout their latest effort. The quintet puts on a riveting spectacle, with beatific swells of atmospheric and rocking hardcore - over the top, epic intertwined guitars - beautiful groovy bass lines - galloping, punchy drum patterns - demented, raspy screaming vocals. The band knows how to effectively build up a song, tension that mounts to a breaking point. It leads to many exciting moments, as the boiling point tips over, leading to an explosion of aggression. PATSY O'HARA switches off between fast-paced death 'n’ roll mayhem and slower mini-epics. There are also various interludes that move along the album. Recorded and mixed at the mighty Tonmeisterei, the production is full and lush. This, along with the fantastic dynamics between all the band members and the compelling songwriting, makes for a successful sophomore album. Thick 180gr vinyl comes with an outstanding and eyecatching gatefold-sleeve with reverse side printings, black innersleeve and includes a digital download card. Not sure, but the point remains that this release is a killer - so stop reading and pick it up right away!
