[engl] ARMS RACE follow up to their “New Wave Of British Hardcore” LP with four new tracks, which sees the band solidify their place as one of the strongest pillars of UK hardcore. Touring Europe and Japan since the release of the LP, these 4 new tracks are yet more proof of why the band leaves a trail of fans whenever they play. “The Beast” displays a ferocious hardcore attack with both boots firmly stuck on the hardcore and punk territories while looking forward to new soundscapes on which they evolve, such as on track ‘Distort Britannia’ that showcases a slowed down atmospheric stomper. Part classic USA Hardcore, part Bristol and Stoke On Trent punk, these new tracks are a perfect continuation of what the band has created during these last 5 years.

In a time the world has become a melting pot of hate, absurdity and on the brink of destruction ARSE have made a record that sums up these dark, dense and claustrophobic times. PRIMITIVE SPECIES is the pinnacle sound of a band that has been crafting, honing and re-imagining the way punk music should be played, with so much raw atmosphere and energy that it will probably rip you apart. Built on a relentless sinister thrum, a taut propulsive clatter, ARSE explode with scalding fury in the screaming guitars and tortured barks and roars echoing out of the radioactive slurry. This is ferocious hardcore/post punk, worked til its end. Noisy and incessant, but it's hella melodic all the same, so hurry up and snag this bad boy. [engl] Hailing from dystopian Sydney, the punk rock trio known as ARSE arrived at the end of 2017 with their acerbic debut Primitive Species on a cassette tape, sounding like the bastard lineage of Feedtime and Black Flag with an uber-modern spin. Equal parts dumb, terrifying and fitting for the times, Species copped the full vinyl treatment six months later courtesy of German punk label Erste Theke Tontraeger. By years end it had crash-landed on The Quietus’ best of 2018 punk round-up alongside Hank Wood and The Hammerheads, Geld and Amyl and The Sniffers. Never content, as their music attests, ARSE have since opened for Cosmic Psychos (AU), No Age (US) and released a split seven-inch record with Sydney noise-assassins Party Dozen. The forthcoming Safe Word EP, a stop-gap on the road to long player glory, is four tracks of future-fried punk the world truly deserves. I like bands that fall on the dividing line between noise rock and hardcore, and Arse are right in that pocket, using pogo beats, wild and noisy guitar solos, and a nihilistic vocal bark that will appeal to fans of Geld, Gay Kiss, Walls, and other bands that trace their lineage back to Black Flag’s My War. Far from just a copycat band, though, Arse strike me as more artsy and ambitious than any of the aforementioned groups. I hear this in the guitar solos (which are particularly unhinged, like Ginn and Hendrix on a bunch of bad drugs), but even more on the two songs that end each side of the EP. These aren’t so much songs as abstract noise / electronic pieces that flesh out the world hinted at in those guitar leads into a full-on post-apocalyptic soundscape. Far beyond your typical “dude stringing together a bunch of guitar pedals and hitting them at random,” these intricately composed pieces scratch the same itch as Klaus Schulze or Tangerine Dream.

[engl] Formed in 1996, Florida's AS FRIENDS RUST delivered energetic, melodic hardcore. Often compared to Dag Nasty or Avail, and in later years Samiam, AFR found themselves at the intersection between several genres, making them not only difficult to pigeonhole, but infectious to listen to. Fronted by Damien Moyal, also of Culture, Morning Again and (currently) On Bodies, AFR, lyrically, was endearingly honest and approachable, and - in a manner quite uncharacteristic to the hardcore scene at large - surprisingly personal. Combined with songwriting that effortlessly blended punk rawness, hardcore urgency, rock n' roll riffage and indie rock production, AFR was a refreshing break from the increasingly bland 90s hardcore scene so fraught with dogma and chugging metal. Until disbanding in 2002, AFR churned out several highly celebrated EPs and one LP, and spent every minute outside of the studio in their van, bringing anthemic singalongs to cities across the US and Europe. In 2008, AFR reunited for one show in their hometown of Gainesville, Florida, followed by a handful of shows in Europe, and in 2014 they got together again to play four shows in Japan. 2015 sees AFR returning to Europe to play the esteemed Groezrock Festival, and they'll play Brooklyn, NY on their way out of town. "The Greatest Hits?" LP release is an assortment, curated by the band, of the best material from across three lineups, six releases and six years.

[engl] AVALANCHE from Vienna/Austria giving nods to the horned one. They play heavy hardcore with a strong tendency towards stoner- and doom-metal. Instead of attempting to intimidate with epic scope or bleak mood, as does by most doom/sludge bands, these miscreants basically cut to the chase and get right in the listener's face. The 5 newly remastered tracks (3 of them are from their "among beasts" 2010 demo) are concise blasts of mostly thudding mid-tempo hardcore rage, riding easy on primal SABBATH riff-worship. The stoner riffs could work your fillings out of your teeth - the ruptured throat sounds pissed - the bass is feedback soaked and gives a solid groove and the drums sound crisp like a nuclear explosion not very far away from your living room. Some parts are slow but not glacial and the riffs are without ever hinting at bounciness. The SABBATH-ian lineage is clear, but AVALANCHE owe just as much to the frothy-mouthed intensity of SLEEP, EYEHATEGOD, OKKULTOKRATI, PENTAGRAM and their ilk. The atmosphere here is generally one of extreme hostility, and when these guys kick up the tempo the resultant is far more hardcore than anything else. Quite simply it is a heavy journey that should be tracked down by anyone into crushing, heavy music - a drug-infused jam - and you’ll be pulled right in! The one-sided, limited and handnumbered (300) LP comes with a screenprinted b-side and cover, black innersleeve and includes a digital download card

[engl] Last year REBELLION RECORDS already reissued BACKFIRE!’s classic “ALL BETS ARE OFF” album on vinyl and you know what? We will continue to do so! Because aside some all-new BACKFIRE! releases, we have some special, previously unreleased vinyl releases up our sleeves, including the band’s ‘98 “cover” EP “CHOOSE MY OWN PATH”! Of course the title-track is a hard-scorching M-town original only available on this release, but the remaining four tracks pay homage to some of the band’s influences, including covers by SLAYER, CRO-MAGS, SIDE BY SIDE and of course WARZONE! [engl] Legendary BACKFIRE! show, recorded in 2003 in the famous CBGB'S in New York. Hidded from the masses for 20 years, now released for the very first time by Rebellion Records! FROM THE BAND: In April in the year 2003 Backfire! headed to NYC for the first time to record Change The Game on I Scream Records. The album was recorded and mixed in Brooklyn by Mike Dijan, Math Henderson and Dean Baltulonis. While we were there Madball played their comeback show in CBGBâ??S and put us on the bill. That was cool in many ways but especially because we supported Madball on their European goodbye tour in 2001. So there we were in the holy grail of NYHC, four Dutch guys nervous as fuck at a sold out show! All our childhood heroes from bands like Cro-Mags Sick Of It All, Agnostic Front, Judge, Murphyâ??s Law and many more were in there attendance, and it was awesome! It was hands down the biggest dream we had as a band. Mike Dijan joined us on stage to play a couple of songs with us. The day after we played a show with Hatebreed in Connecticut but because Jamey took Pat and I on a crazy adventure that night, I have hardly any memories of that show. The whole week was overwhelming, but this CBGB show was the absolute highlight! Weâ??ve returned to NYC to play at the Black and Blue Bowl in 2008 and that was impressive, but for us 2003 is something we will never ever forget. So we are very proud to present this album with the help from Wouter and Rebellion Records. I thank Pat, Igor & Frank and of course Madball, John Franko, Mike Dijan, Jamey Jasta, Bram Swarte and all people who made this possible from the bottom of my heart! [engl] After reissuing and releasing milestone albums such as ALL BETS ARE OFF, CHOOSE MY OWN PATH and legendary live -and demo recordings filed under LIVE AT CBGB’S, REBELLION RECORDS now proudly presents to you the all new BACKFIRE! album ANGRY GOD! ANGRY GOD is the first new material of the M-town Rebels since 2016 and the band’s first full-length in well over a decade! To say this release is very much anticipated is therefore an understatement. Luckily BACKFIRE! lives up to the expectations and releases it’s strongest, most explosive record to date! Never before the Gods of European hardcore delivered an album on which they sounded so old school and typically BACKFIRE! on one hand, but as refreshing and renewing as they do on the other hand. Going strong for nearly 3 decades already, but the band still manages to reinvent itself on ANGRY GOD and does so with anger and style! The band has announced this album will be their testimony and final release ever. ANGRY GOD is their most darkest and personal album to date and the crown on their 30 year carreer span. The album was realized with the help of some old friends and partners in crime. Former drummer and now producer Igor is responsible for the album’s massive and heavy production. Oeds (The Devil’s Blood, Molassess) co-wrote the magnificent instrumental title-track. And Merijn (Sparrow Falls, The Young Ones) and Erick (Live By The Sword, Strongarm And The Bullies) perform guest vocals on respectively “Empty Shell” and “Black Hole”

[engl] It takes BALTA seven minutes to annihilate Rendszerszint? Agybasz?ás (Systematic Brainfucking), the debut EP by these feral Hungarians. Their approach to music is beyond urgent and their delivery equally drastic. BALTA’s sound is vicious, pounding and hectic. With one of the nastiest guitar tones to grace these ears in recent memory, and a drumming style that may collapse at any giving moment. Drawing parallels with PIÑEN, ULSTER, the first TRANQUILIZER Flexi, PLASMID or IMAGEN is fair, giving the total disregard for melody or time the band displays. But it is their anti-authoritarian lyrics and uber punk attitude that sets them on their own path; Searching for a primitive future amongst the concrete ruins.

[engl] BARRERA follows up the NUEVO SONIDO BALEAR path started by ORDEN MUNDIAL, POU and PENA MÁXIMA with a debut release filled to the rim with lust, sex, power and distortion. Their songs are slow and acid, with a tortured tone that would make GLOOM or BRAINBOMBS cry. The seven songs on “Visiones Nocturnas” are themed around the death of romantic love and are not afraid to look at the darkest side of life with a nihilistic conviction. Musically the record follows the path laid by STICKMEN WITH RAYGUNS or FLIPPER but are firmly rooted in Spanish Punk with DESECHABLES as a clear point of reference, both aesthetically and sonically. Although BARRERA occupy their own space with a sound that is clearly their own nightmare.

[engl] Melodic Punk / Hardcore aka Melodycore from Chile's most popular punkband BBS PARANOICOS and emotional (Post-)Hardcore from Austria's E.M.S. on their final release in 2001.

[engl] Olympia, WA 's own Beta Boys are back with more songs in the form of a LP. Since their demo tape (that came out in 2014) and several EPs they have had a lot of time to develop the sound that truly makes them betas. Leaving their aggressive hardcore style in the past, they play more of "Hell Comes To Your House" style songs, more rock`n`roll with a graveyard guitar boogie and a punk Screamin' Jay Hawkins on vocals. For those of you keeping count this is our second release from Washington's state capital. Time to set up a field office because I don't see this town slowing down anytime soon. Look out Atlanta there's a new contender for the crown. This time around we’ve got Olympia scuzz punks Beta Boys. Following stellar releases on Lumpy, Neck Chop, Total Punk and Goodbye Boozy, they are back with their best outing yet. Beta Boys have a sound that is a call back to when punk was fresh without sounding like a boring rehash band. All of their songs have a rhythmic echo that stays in your head for days after hearing it. The inconsistent sloppy delivery over a classic mid-tempo 80s punk sound make for an excellent combination. This band fills all the void in your records right now. It's funny, when you first listen to them, Beta Boys sound like a fairly typical hardcore band, but the more you pay attention the more you realize that they really have managed to stake out their own particular aesthetic. Their songs are fast but not too fast, and the guitars have a chorus effect on them but they never sound too over-the-top goth-y... the descriptions for one of their records mentioned Hell Comes to Your House-style punk, and while I've never heard that mentioned as a genre before, it kind of makes sense... Beta Boys do fit somewhere on the same part of the punk spectrum occupied by 45 Grave's punkier moments (like the track "Already Dead"), Christian Death, Legal Weapon, and Modern Warfare. In an age when every band seems to break up after just a demo and some 7"s, it's refreshing to hear a band grow a little bit more and really develop their own voice. Here's hoping they continue to push forward, and until then I'll be spinning this LP quite a bit. A strikingly focused and sonically refined tour de force, these ten new tracks pair the band's Midwestern hardcore roots with a darker, midtempo burn. A pure punk sound if there ever was; precisely capturing the boredom, depression, and ever-present sense of hopelessness spread across modern America. Beta Boys have truly upped the ante on this full length; an album absolutely brimming with stellar production, first-rate songwriting, and unapollegetically punk flavor. Packaged in a full color jacket with artwork from Beta Boys' own Hank Durango.

[engl] For their second release on ETT, Omaha-based BIB continues their streak of making sketchy-as-hell hardcore punk for straight up weirdos. This is a Compilation LP, this rules, ok! When you hear Omaha, Nebraska, you might think of steak, Warren Buffet, or Saddle Creek Records. But you probably don’t think of hardcore. In comes BIB. Noisey, blown out hardcore from the middle of nowhere. Following the “everything louder than everything else approach” to their demo, Bibs already colossal riffs sound like an avalanche when the bottom drops. Squirmy effected vocals veer their sound from huge to weird. Live, sometimes seen with 3 guitar players, Bib takes their wall of sound to a whole new level that will leave your eardrums vibrating. BIB continues their wall of noise style production on this compilation release, with delayed vocals that sound like they're being tossed off of a mountain. BIB mixes quick, full chord riffs with crushing breakdowns. Vocals weave between child like shrill barks, primordial grunts, and pressure reducing singing. The straight ahead, downstroke pounding demo has been compared to the likes of Hoax mixed with Pissed Jeans, this EP is one step over! This band slays harder than riot police at a G8 summit.
