LIBERTY BELL, THE
Thoughts and visions
[engl] Corpus Christie, Texas 1967 – the town is a hotbed for young music groups. One of the local bands to cause attention are The Zulus. They are playing local gigs, have a certain popularity and a record deal is overdue. Carl Becker, co–owner of J–Beck Records, who had already managed the Zakary Thaks, offers the band a contract for his newly established Cee–Bee Label. On Beckers suggestion, the band changes their name to LIBERTY BELL and in 1967 their debut 45 "The Nazz Are Blue" b/w "Big Boss Men" gets released. The name Liberty Bell is indissoluble wedded with other self penned devasting garage recordings such as "That’s How It Will Be", "For What You Lack" or the unreleased "I Can See". In 1968 lead singer Ronnie Tanner leaves the band and gets replaced by former Zakary Thaks lead singer Chris Gerniottis. The change in line–up and the arising spirit of time gives a more psychedelic edge to the bands sound and leads to another load of classic Gerniottis written scorching fuzz recordings such as "Reality Is The Only Answer", "Recognition" or "Look For Tomorrow". For the first time in 25 years, the music of the Liberty Bell is available again on vinyl. Brillant Texas–Garage–Punk!.- Format

In The Woodland Of Weir
[engl] The late 60s seem like a lake of great music releases without a bottom to me. Whenever you think there is no way to go deeper into the mists of obscurity you stumble over another crown jewel from the inner sanctum of garage rock, acid pop and power psychedelia. THE LITTLE BOY BLUES emerged from the simmering Chicago scene of the mid to late 60s where the contemporary beat fused with elements of soul, jazz, blues and funk tinged with dreamy harmonies of the most colorful kind to become acid and garage rock. Sometimes both at the same time. You could literally experience the development of fuzz pedals in rock music spinning those old records including “In the woodland of weir”. The sawing opening chords of “Cathedral” make sure what you are about to listen to. The buzzing heavy guitars raise dirt hand in hand with a sluggish beat before a pastoral organ melody divides the tune into half and after that the seething maelstrom of heaviness overruns you once again. There is more than just this dirty caveman bluesrock you will experience when you give “In the woodland of Weir” a well deserved spin. “Seed of love” is a slow psychedelic pop tune with some wild and explosive fuzzed out lead guitar, wickedly insane flute kicking in from time to time and a bone grinding organ to contrast the thought provoking vocal melody and the dreamy atmosphere. “The great train robbery” comes to hit you straight into your face as the brutal proto punk anthem it is, an aggressive, furious rock eruption with a rather monotonous vocal line. And “Mr. Trip wouldn’t listen” with some sweet string section on a carpet of utterly distorted rhythm guitars howling and scrunching spiced with in some way desperate vocals will thrill you down to your bare bones. Hard garage rock for all freaks into US heroes such as THE SEEDS, THE COUNT FIVE, THE THIRD BARDO and THE MUSIC MACHINE or English cult acts like THE TROGGS, THE WHO and THE YARDBIRDS with some great outstanding songs on its score. A blast to spin!- Format

Chante
[engl] If you know the 1968 Eurovision song, or the TV kids cartoons tunes which Claude Lombard sang, it will be hard to believe what’s happening there...Beautiful pop songs sung in french by this belgian maverick (who worked with Luciano Berio) swirling upon wonderful 60’s abstract–expresionism orchestrations: chimes and ondes Martenots among lovely dream bass lines and organ drifting, with dreamy use of echoes, reverbs and sometimes electronics. There are incredibly beautiful songs here, and probably one of the unique example of french songs with really gorgeous, untipycal sound work, closer to some UK and US proto–psychedelic orchestration in pop world. It was by the time a complete commercial flop... A shame of course considering the quality of compositions offered here by Claude Lombard herself, who have no shame to feel if one compare the elegance of her work to an inspired and electronic version of Michel Legrand... Any serious fan of Broadcast or Stereolab will fall in love forever with this true secret gem, to say the least...And no need to mention the kaleidoscopic design of the cover, mesmerizing and perfectly illustrating the content. Masterpiece here? Hell yes! And you can forget about the cartoon tunes of your lazy childhood...- Format

[engl] Originally released in 1971 (only in Brazil and Argentine) under the SHAKER’S name, (an idea / imposition of the record label / producer) In The Studio Again was in fact recorded by THE INNOCENTS, an Uruguayan band featuring Roberto "Pelin" Capobianco and Carlos "Caio" Vila from LOS SHAKERS plus Héctor and Carlos Capobianco (Pelin’s twin brothers) and Rubén ’Lorenzo’ Viela. These top musicians recorded in Brazil a wonderful album full of catchy songs, vocal harmonies, superb arrangements and Beatlesque / baroque–pop / proto power–pop vibes. Featuring a collection of English–sung self–penned songs (some of them could have been easily included on Shakers For You or La Conferencia Secreta del Toto’s Bar) and amazing cover versions of Carole King and McCartney.- Format

La Conferencia Secreta del Toto’s Bar
[engl] Originally released in late 1968, La Conferencia Secreta del Toto’s Bar was Los Shaker’s psychedelic masterpiece. Inspired by Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band – a milestone that would change the face of pop music forever back in 1967 – Los Shakers created a fundamental album in the history of South American rock music, a seminal record for many artists to come, full of pleasant surprises, magic sounds and sense of humour. It offers a complex fusion of styles, with elements from both rock and jazz, plus the use of exotic instruments like the bandoneon–widely used in tango music but unprecedented until then in pop/rock adventures. It all makes the last album by Los Shakers an essential, innovative record for any collector and aficionado. Sounding as fresh and original today as it did back in the late sixties, here’s the first ever vinyl reissue.- Format

Los Shakers / Break It All
[engl] Guerssen proudly presents the first long playing record by the fabulous LOS SHAKERS, the legendary band formed in Uruguay in the mid 1960s, in the wake of the Beatlemania phenomenon.Their songs had little to envy to those of their heroes from Liverpool. Tempo, chord progressions and rhythms boiled in a magic, infectious sound! The double LP set collects both the original Los Shakers album from 1965 (in its original mono mix) plus Break It All (originally released in 1966 for the U.S. market, featuring new stereo re–recordings of most of the songs from the first Los Shakers album and 45 only tracks).- Format

Shakers For You
[engl] Originally released in 1966, Shakers For You was the second LP by Los Shakers, the legendary beat/pop band from Uruguay. An album clearly influenced by Help!, Rubber Soul and Revolver, but showing a band that were more than mere copycats, offering some revolutionary compositions and influences such as bossa–nova. The songs on Shakers For You take us through incredible musical mixtures that, while keeping a strong early/mid Beatles feel, give us clues of what would come later in pop music with psychedelia just around the corner. This is the first ever vinyl reissue of one of the greatest beat LPs from the 1960s. Here are Los Shakers... For You!- Format

Forever Changes
[engl] Forever Changes is the third studio album by the American rock band Love, released by Elektra Records in November 1967. The album saw the group embrace a subtler folk-oriented sound and orchestration, while primary songwriter Arthur Lee explored darker themes alluding to mortality and his creeping disillusionment with the 1960s counterculture. It was the final album recorded by the original band lineup; after its completion, Bryan Maclean left the group acrimoniously and the other members were dismissed by leader Lee. Forever Changes had only moderate success in the album charts when it was first released in 1967; it peaked at No. 154 in the US, with a stronger showing in Great Britain, where it reached No. 24 on the UK album chart. In subsequent years, it became recognized as an influential document of 1960s psychedelia and was named among the greatest albums of all time by a variety of publications.- Format

It Happened
[engl] 1966–67 garage anthems, jangly folk–rock and baroque pop courtesy of prolific songwriter Paul Myerberg aka Paul Martin. "There a new man in town ? Martin!" So began the liner notes from the picture sleeve of his second 45 record in 1967. Actually, Paul Martin started life as Paul Myerberg. Growing up in Manhattan, Paul was influenced by the exciting music of the day, like the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. In the mid–Sixties Paul started writing and recording some impressive demos which ran the gamut from garage–punk, to jangly folk–rock, soul–pop and baroque, orchestrated pop. Many of these were cut on 4–track tape at Tower Sound Studios in midtown Manhattan with the help and guidance of the skilled jazz musician, Frank Owens. While at Tower, Paul met Herb Ostrow who released Paul’s first single on the IMPEX label out of Philadelphia. "It Happened", a terrific garage number, came out in the spring of 1966. The following year, Paul released a second 45 on his own Rodin label, "The Last Remains of our Love" (another impressive, passionate garage gem), backed with "The Fairy Princess" (a dreamy pop–psych track). Almost 30 years later Paul’s first album was released on the Distortions Records label, compiling tracks from his two sought–after singles plus studio demos and acetates. For many people, this was the first introduction to the music of Paul Martin, the man with a Brill Building inside his head. Now, we present a revamped version of that compilation, featuring new artwork, newly remastered sound, insert with rare photos / liner notes and one previously unreleased track from 1967.- Format

MONKS, THE
Pretty suzanne
Gemastered vom original Acetate (einzig bekannte Kopie). In unglaublichem High Fidelity Fuzz Sound!!!- Format

Which Way You Goin' Billy? / Poppy Seeds
[engl] First two albums on 1 CD! Some of us may still be familiar with Canadian Pop singer Terry Jacks who released an utterly successful yet greasy ballad called “Seasons in the sun” way back in 1974. It became an instant hit and it definitely possesses a depth and quality most pop tune writers and producers would go crazy for. But that was just a later milestone of Terry’s career as pop musician. Years before in the mid to late 60s he found his soulmate in his later wife Susan and following a series of live performances formed a beautiful band named THE POPPY FAMILY with her and a few like minded souls. What we talk about here is definitely the contemporary pop music of 1969 with a few turns into psychedelic fields. There are lush arrangements with accessible rhythms, string and brass sections to boost up the heart warming, gentle and joyful vocal melody of Mrs. Jacks on the opening track “That’s where I went wrong” and still you can feel the same sense of melancholy Terry Jacks spiced up his later evergreen hit tune with. “Free from the city” is clothed in a garment of Indian inspired sitar harmonies and drones, has a rather enchanting lead melody and a groovy, polyrhythmic fundament. One helluva acid pop tune that should have been a dancefloor smasher back in the day at each psychedelic club. A gentle Latin beat, sweet instrumental arrangements and Susan Jacks’ haunting vocals make up “Beyond the clouds”, a mellow dance where couples can get close to each other drowning within each other’s souls. Despite that it the overall mood is still a bit melancholic and desperate. Well, Terry Jacks takes over the lead vocals and the next song “A good thing lost” comes as a short and sweet country rock tune a band like THE BYRDS would have been proud of. Elements of French chanson, a waltzing rhythm, another deep and contemplative vocal melody sung with a burning passion and once more these lush and fluffy arrangements build the fifth track “You took my moonlight away”. Up to this point we have experienced several styles popular at the time the album has been recorded and we will certainly switch in between all these for the next couple of songs until we get to No. 12, “Of cities and escapes”. Two outstanding tracks for the meantime are “There’s no blood in bone”, track 6, a hot blooded, moody psychedelic pop song with fuzz guitar and mellotron lines supporting Susan telling another rather tragic tale and the mind-blowing “Happy island” with its tabla rhythms and sitar lines which remind you of classical Indian ragas. Still “Happy island” remains a Western society pop tune with a little psychedelic edge and comes as uplifting as the name suggests. This album has this timeless vibe of beauty many of the late 1960s records have. It is accessible enough for fans of pop and even country rock who would rather go for Doug Sahm and his SIR DOUGLAS QUINTETT than for JEFFERSON AIRPLANE, THE BOW STREET RUNNERS or THE SHOCKING BLUE but even their followers might find enlightenment in this album, which is rich on beautiful songs. A great discovery for 60s music lovers. Grab your copy while you can.- Format

PRISMA
Phantasma
