    3 HÜR-EL

    3 Hür-El

[engl] One of the very few, if not the only one, Turkish groups not doing any covers but only self- penned compositions, the mighty 3 Hür- El were three brothers: Onur, Haldun and Feridun Hürel. Having played together for their whole life, it was in the late 60's when they took the 3 Hür- El name, and they released two wonderful albums that we're now making available for you vinyl freaks. This one's their debut, originally released in 1972. A brilliant set of Turkish ethno- influenced folk- rock tracks with a psychedelic feel, some great electric guitar and fantastic Eastern percussion. A very rare album now available again and coming with an insert, with liners and photos.

    Hürel arsivi

[engl] ...And their second longplayer which came out in 1976 also on Diskötur, this is an absolutely killer of an album and easily one of the top Turkish ones. It has a more Western feel...Feridun was here infected by fuzz virus and his two- arm guitar (one for guitar, one for saz) will give you no rest. Also there's much more drums than percussion now, so we get an astounding blend of psychedelic rock with Turkish tradition, plenty of distorted fuzz guitar and electric saz. Comes with an insert, with liners and photos.

    ACTION

    Rolled Gold

[engl] The legendary 1967–68 recordings by UK mod band THE ACTION, registered when they were in transition from mod–beat to full–blown psychedelia, just prior to becoming MIGHTY BABY. Originally recorded as a set of demos with the intention of obtaining an album deal which inexplicably never materialized, "Rolled Gold" is a collection of brilliant songs, melancholic yet powerful. The Action’s classic line–up of Reg King, Alan ’Bam’ King, Michael Evans and Roger Powell is augmented with the inclusion of new members Martin Stone on guitar and Ian Whiteman on flute / organ. All of them are playing their hearts out: superb harmonies, great guitar work and clever arrangements which show the influence of bands like The Byrds and the psychedelic sounds that were coming from the West Coast and UK as well as jazz giants like Coltrane. Always the stuff of legend, The "Rolled Gold" tapes were shelved at the time, not released until 1997 when the Dig The Fuzz label discovered them and did a limited LP/CD run. Out of print on vinyl for many years, we present a new vinyl edition. If you dig the psychedelic era of SMALL FACES, PRETTY THINGS, THE WHO, plus THE CREATION, NAZZ, TOMORROW, BLOSSOM TOES, THE END or TRAFFIC...look no further.

    AGAMENON

    Todos ríen de mí

[engl] Hippie group from Madrid, this is no doubt the most acid psychedelic rock album recorded in Spain in the 70's. This is their sole album, originally released in 1975 on the Explosion label and a very rare and collectable item. No one knew anything about the group members until now, it had been even rumoured to be some Argentinian guys living in Spain...but no, the group was formed by 2 female and 4 male and the brainhead was Carlos Garcia, who sadly passed away not long ago and to whom this reissue is dedicated. 10 tracks, 8 of them in English and 2 in Spanish, all originals and fantastic; there's lots of heavy acid fuzz guitar here, probably the wildest fuzz recorded in Spain (''Todos rien de mi'', ''Send me'' or ''I need money''), and also some great sunshine psych- pop (''Cuco go fly'', ''Al salir el sol''), and it's all very well packed with some of the best multi- vocal harmonies you can find in a Spanish record ever. A truely fantastic album that we strongly recommend!!! This first ever reissue comes with an insert with some never- seen- before pictures and infos about the band, plus a repro of a very rare band poster. Dig the cover artwork too!!!

    AIRBUS

    Test flight

[engl] West Coast Consortium spinoff Airbus never played live or even released a record during their 1970- 1972 lifespan, instead spending their entire subterranean existence holed up in their self- owned London studio, writing and performing innumerable high quality demos and then attempting to place those songs with major label acts. But, more by accident than design, they came to leave behind THE Great Lost Early 70s British Pop Album - a jaw- dropping collision of superb songs, dazzling vocal harmonies, intelligent lyrics and hook- laden melodies. Here, then, is the strange, previously untold story of a band that didn?t leave so much as a footprint in the musical sands, but recorded a greater number of three- minute pop nuggets than almost all of their contemporaries. 500 copies limited pressing in 180g vinyl with detailed liner notes.

    ARCESIA

    Reachin' Arcesia

[engl] A classic since the year zero of rare records collecting and the ''Incredible Strange Music'' scene, ''Reachin' Arcesia'' has always been the cause of many rumours and bizarre stories. We set the record straight with this, the first ever legit reissue of this legendary album, featuring detailed liner notes telling the real story of the great John Arcesi for the first time. Arcesi was a veteran singer of the big- band era who in the early 70s recorded a pop album with help from an anonymous hip studio musicians. The album was released in a private edition of 300 copies and most of them were given away to family and friends. In the late 80s, one of those copies was unearthed by rare record dealer Paul Major, who was one of the first persons to appreciate the singularities of ''Reachin' Arcesia''. Since then, the album, which mixes over the top crooner vocals with late 60s acid- rock / pop arrangements is now considered a lounge- psych / real people masterpiece. Gatefold sleeve with original artwork on back and new cover design on front. Detailed liner notes inside telling the real story of John Arcesi and rare photos.

    ATHANOR

    Flashback

[engl] Chicago, early 70s. Greg Herriges is obsessed with Lennon, 12- string guitars and far- out psychedelic sounds. Rick Vittenson is a Beach Boys- Hollies- Who fanatic who writes for Crawdaddy! magazine. Both had previously played in several garage- college bands during the 60s. Combining their mutual love for Sixties music, Athanor was born. With the help of top studio musicians, they recorded and self- released three 45s between 1973 and 1975 (the first one produced by Mark Breyer, with whom Rick had played in pre- Skooshny band Brevity) which are now highly sought- after by fans of obscure psychedelic pop. All of them are featured here in stellar sound taken from the master tapes along with previously unreleased studio tracks and superb sounding home demos (1973- 1981), plus a new song recorded in 2006 in the same vein as their vintage recordings. Athanors music features impressive songwriting & musicianship, a collision of Beatlesque harmony vocals, Rickenbacker & Guild 12- string guitars, occasional fuzz- wah leads, Fender Rhodes, studio effects. Psychedelic proto- power pop highly recommended to anyone into Lazy Smoke, Badfinger, Only Ones, Emitt Rhodes, Rockin? Horse, Creme Soda.?

    AVALANCHE

    Perseverance kills our game

[engl] Absolute masterpiece when talking about progressive / psychedelic folk- rock from Europe. Dutch band Avalanche was formed in the early 70s and recorded their only album in 1979. ''Perseverance kills our game'' was released as a private edition of 500 copies, which were only distributed among friends and relatives. Despite being a home- made project (the album was recorded in just one day!) the result was stunning.Totally early 70s sounding electric folk- rock with flute, piano, bass, drums, and killer fuzz guitar. Mostly instrumental with a few vocals in English. It alternates delicate acoustic passages with devastating fuzz leads, sounding like Fairport Convention jamming with early Ash Ra Tempel. The album closes with an extended 11 minute track on which guitar player Daan Slaman starts playing leads like a madman, creating layers and layers of liquid acid- fuzz guitar. It has to be heard to be believed! First ever LP / CD reissue, done in cooperation with the original band members. Insert / booklet with rare photos and liner notes by Richard Allen.

    BIXBY, DAVE

    Ode to Quetzalcoatl (US Cover)

[engl] Since its discovery in the late 90s, Dave Bixby’s legendary $2000 private press album from 1969 is considered by all serious record collectors as the king in the loner/downer folk genre. After being involved in 60s Michigan folk and garage–rock bands such as The Shillelaghs and Peter & The Prophets, Bixby started playing acoustic guitar and experimenting with LSD. After a year of drug abuse he felt broken. Starting a soul–searching, spiritual journey, he wrote "Ode to Quetzalcoatl" and most of the material for his second album, Harbinger’s "Second Coming" in just one month and a half. Assisted by fellow musician Brian MacInness, who played some guitar parts on the album, Dave recorded "Quetzalcoatl" using a echo–laden four track machine in a flat’s living room. The sound is lo–fi and sparse: just acoustic guitars and some occasional harmonica & flute, added to Bixby’s haunting, emotional vocals, spiritual lyrics and solid songwriting. The opening cut, the eerie and painful "Drug Song" sets the mood perfectly for the rest of the album which contains more tormented titles like "666" , "Lonely faces", Open Doors", "Secret forest"...Never an acoustic folk album sounded so intense as this. Carefully remastered sound from vinyl (no master tapes exists) done at Shadoks Music Studios, insert with extensive and detailed liner notes by Matvei Procak – the guy who found Bixby in 2006 – plus some rare pictures.

    Echoes of love's reality

[engl] Most would probably agree that this is one of the very best psych- style LPs from the 1980s. Not retro at all but (like Bobb Trimble) a piece of the late 1960s preserved from time's rust. Male/female vocals lament and serenade the quest for knowledge of love and beauty in an appealing soundscape, with lyrical guitar leads throughout, good use of mellotron, occasional tablas, flute and bells. The recording has a definite 1981 sound but (again, like Bobb Trimble) this somehow becomes an advantage. There's not a questionable song on this album, recommended to anyone open for a soft, dreamy trip inside the melancholy and bliss of an acid- tinted romance.'''' (The Acid Archives). COOLEY - MUNSON

    In debt

[engl] Bill Cooley and Alan Munson were two friends in Santa Barbara, California, living their early twenties writing folk- rock songs for their pleasure. That was 1972, and they decided to put these songs into studio, autoproduce the album and press a tiny quantity of 500 pieces hoping it could help getting a contract with a major company. This never happened, and as you would have guessed, this fact helped to make their sole album, ?In Debt?, a major collectable item with the folk- rock and psychedelic rock listeners and collectors. Today, original copies of this record fetch quite interesting sums when changing hands in record fairs or internet auctions. Being a private pressing, you can easily imagine its not a big production, but no care. This album has the right feel and you won?t need anything else to make it one of your recent faves. All tracks are original compositions, and the style is very personal. Its folk- rock, but many tracks are quite psychedelic too, in their own way. But don?t look close for influences, they will not come to mind that easily?. Bill and Alan had their own psychedelic folk- rock style, and the raw, sometimes amateurish feel that these recordings have, give the album the final distinctive touch. Never reissued before in any format, now here we come with a splendid reissue, with the collaboration of the guys. Remastered sound taken from the original mastertapes, and including an insert with linernotes and unseen pictures. Dig that amazing artwork too! A must!Alan Munson kept going the folk- rock way and released two solo albums during the 70s too, which we are also re- releasing along with ?In Debt?.

    CYMBELINE

    1965 - 1971

[engl] Previously unreleased DIY homemade psychedelia, teenbeat and fuzz-psych/prog by this amazing Swedish band, 1965-1971!! Tracks like “Third Image” or “Look at the stars” are an incredible find for anyone into US garage-psych (they wouldn’t sound out of place on any Pebbles or Psychedelic Unknowns volume!) and others like “Flicka”, “Stolta Vingar” or “Mittuppslag” are top notch ‘70s fuzzed out Scandinavian psych/prog. We can’t believe that such fabulous stuff has remained hidden in a carboard box until now. Formed in the industrial town of Norrköping in the mid ‘60s, Cymbeline (also known as Motala Ström and W&J) only released a 45 in 1971 before breaking up. But during their existence, the band recorded a lot of stuff, included here for the first time along with their rare 45. Cymbeline was basically two guys, Michael Journath and Anders Weyde, who met in 1965 while they both played in beat bands. They started recording songs at Anders little home studio with help with some friends and that’s how songs like “Imagination” and “Look at the stars”, amazing examples of homemade teen-beat, were born. At the same time, Michael and Anders were feeling a bit tired of playing cover versions with their beat bands so decided to start recording more experimental stuff, using armchairs and furniture as percussion, sounds from seagulls and birds, an electric cocktail mixer, improvising lyrics…these incredible experiments were recorded as “Images”, including the killer garage-psych sounding “Third Image”. As the years passed by, the home studio improved and new songs were recorded in a more psych-prog vein, some of them included here. They also played a few live gigs with some help from other local musicians. In 1970, Ulf Ryberg joined the group and soon after a 45 was released containing his song “New York”. The flip side was “Sixth Image”, originally one of the “Images” but rearranged and re-recorded. In 1971, demos for an LP where recorded at Europafilm Studios in Stockholm. Two fantastic songs are included here and the sound is different from the earlier recordings – closer to the groups live performances. So, 40 years later, here’s the LP that Cymbeline always dreamed of.

    DERDIYOKLAR IKILISI

    Çoban Mamos

[engl] Turkish Bar or Bengi folk dancing requires approximately 100 people to do properly, and it helps if a lot of them are eating wedding cake. You put your arms around the shoulders of the people on either side of you, and then stomp around in a circle, facing in and kicking the air, until everybody is exhausted and happy. Far away from any folklore festivals, Derdiyoklar hand- built the soundtrack to this dancing as it was drunkenly executed by luckless German- Turkish immigrants in the fashion- insensitive 80s. And though the band had only two members, they decided electric saz, synthesized drums, cimbalom, and sheep sound effects were all needed to get the job done. Who could argue? This tinkly and psychoactive album, full of uniquely odd overdubs and buzzy, flanged- out guitar solos, can now be yours. First time ever reissue. Sound taken from mastertapes, insert with liner notes, 180gr vinyl.

    Disko Folk

[engl] Anadolu Pop doesn?t get weirder than this! Back in 1979, two Turkish guys armed with electro- saz, guitar, drums and synthetizers were hitting the Turkish market in Germany where they lived, playing their sets of traditional flavoured electro- folk in weddings and circumcision feasts for Turkish emigrants in Germany. That crazy is the story, that crazy is their sound!!!

    Dragonfly

[engl] Ultra loud heavy psychedelic rock from Colorado late 60s with loads of fuzz guitar all over. Heres a welcome, first ever official vinyl reissue with the original artwork and insert with linernotes. This album is sure to share space at the top of your shelf with Plastic Cloud, Savage Resurrection and SRC for those special moments when you want to teach a young, unsuspecting psych convert just what that acid rock guitar thing was all about? DRANSFIELD, BARRY

    Barry Dransfield

[engl] In 1972, Barry Dransfield recorded his debut solo album. Just called ''Barry Dransfield'', the album is a real delight from start to finish. It features an array of traditional songs arranged by Barry, some original ones and some fantastic covers from people like Michael Hurley (''The werewolf'') and David Ackles (''Be my friend''). Sadly, the album was deleted just after nine months from his initial release, because it was released on Folk Mill, a Polydor sublabel created to enter the folk field, but the Polydor guys realized soon that this was not his business, and deleted their whole catalog immediately (including also the C.O.B. Moyshe McStiff? album). Needless to say, the album has become a true rarity and a collector's item since then. Record Hunter voted him ''the rarest folk album'' and Tapestry Of Delights book described it as ''along with Vashti Bunyan's ''Just a diamond day'', this debut solo album, full of enchanting folk, is one of the two most sought after major label folk albums''. This wonderful album was reissued some years ago in a limited vinyl run of 500 that were disappeared at the first day without even entering UK & USA stores, as it was sold entirely to Japan. Now we're very happy to announce our new reissue , plus an insert with linernotes. A stunning release to add to our no- filler growing catalog. Absolutely indispensable!
