Nigeria 70: Funky Lagos
Das Label Strut sorgt - endlich! - dafür, dass mit "Nigeria 70" ein, wenn nicht sogar der Afro-Klassiker schlechthin wieder verfügbar ist. Und das auch noch in einer fantastischen 3LP-Deluxe-Edition mit drei Bonus-CDs, wovon zwei CDs die Tracks der Kompilation enthalten und die dritte CD eine Audio-Dokumentation mit Interviews zahlreicher Protagonisten. Die Stücke für "Nigeria 70" wurden innerhalb eines dreiwöchigen Aufenthalts in Lagos gesammelt. Die Kompilation selbst erschien erstmals 2001 im Anschluss an den Tod von Fela Kuti und sorgte unter jüngeren Clubbesuchern und Musikenthusiasten für ein wieder aufkeimendes Interesse an Afro-Funk und Afrobeat. Wie noch keine andere Zusammenstellung zuvor, führte "Nigeria 70" mit 15 Hochkarätern in eine Zeit ein, als nigerianische Bands damit begannen, traditionelle einheimische Stile wie Highlife und Juju mit Funk, Soul, Rock und Disco auf geradezu explosive Weise zu fusionieren. Für die Neuedition, die weltweit auf 500 Exemplare beschränkt ist, wurden alle Stücke neu gemastert.- Format
