    DIRTY TALONS

    s/t

[engl] "Since Austrian Punkrock outfit ASTPAI decided to call it a day in 2020, the remaining members Marco, Bernie and Zock, together with Jess, Roman and Martin, began working on songs for a new project, the direct successor to ASTPAI. Musically, earlier influences were left behind and the new formation focused on a more straight forward sound: Dirty Talons play heavy riff rock with three guitars, musically influenced by bands like Sheer Mag, Kvelertak, Thin Lizzy, Van Halen, as well as Boston and Judas Priest, while Jess‘ highly energetic, yet clean sounding vocals are more reminiscent of 80s pop & rock. Lyrically, the songs deal with subjects such as inner conflicts and self-doubt, narcissism and manipulation by others, but also self-empowerment and determination."

    DISASTER

    War Cry

[engl] Originally released in 1991 War Cry was one of the first purely DISCHARGE influenced bands to span what later become popularly known as D-Beat. Hailing from Halifax, they were part of a new wave of raging UK bands with worshiped “Why” as the finest piece on non-music ever recorded. DISASTER faded into obscurity shortly after releasing their MLP and War Cry became a cult record among raw hardcore fans worldwide counting visionaries as Kawakami from DISCLOSE as one of their biggest fans. Finally reissued on CD in Japan in 2006 with extra live sets and unreleased songs LVEUM decide to bring this record back to life on its original format. This reissue comes with an extra Flexi Disc including two Discharge cover songs ( “Mania from Conquest” off the V/A Discharged CD and the unreleased “Fight Back” from the War Cry MLP session) as well as “Death Race” from the “A nightmare on Albion Street” compilation LP. It also comes with a 12 pages 11?x11? booklet containing flyers, pictures, interview and other memorabilia.

    DISPO / TELESATAN

    s/t

[engl] Dispo, at times, sounds like a more urgent, chaotic Death Wish Kids, certainly no easy feat if you're familiar with that band's sneering, crazed brand of streetpunk. At other times it's lurching, bass-heavy, blown-out art punk. Always high velocity, like everything's teetering on the edge of falling apart. Telesatan, meanwhile, has a number of songs just crossing over the one-minute mark, and yet they still manage to let their songs breathe a bit - often mid-tempo, sparse guitar lines, shouted hoarse vocals. I imagine these are a pair of fun live bands. - Razorcake

    DOGEYED

    Hot For The Moon

[engl] Hot For The Moon' is the long awaited second (and final) EP from Bristol slacker rockers Dogeyed, recorded & mixed straight to tape in one day back in Autumn 2020. These four snappy little numbers see the pups at their poppiest, heaviest and spookiest. Fans of indiscriminate whammy bar will not be disappointed, a band at their peak, just before their demise. Dogeyed is dead. Long live Dogeyed.

    DOLLY MIXTURE

    BBC Radio Sessions

[engl] Rejoice Indie poppers, punks and pop kids – Sealed Records in conjunction with the band and BBC release all 14 tracks Dolly Mixture recorded for the BBC. You no longer have to listen to bad YouTube uploads… Here are all the tracks remastered from original sources, and as an added treat featuring John Peel introducing them and three jingles the band recorded for Kid Jensen. The first session was recorded for John Peel in August 1979 and features the unreleased ‘Dolly Mixture Theme Song’ which the band used to start gigs with and a super strong cover of Goffin and King’s ‘The Locomotion’. Four already Dolly Mixture classics from the time were also recorded including ‘Dream Come True’, ‘He’s So Frisky’, ‘New Look Baby’ and ‘Ernie Ball’. You can hear the excitement and joy and the sounds are so well recorded at Maida Vale Studios with top notch studio equipment and production. The next session from September 82 was recorded for Kid Jensen and shows a slightly more mature band, but the tracks are just as instant and lovable. These tracks have a more 60’s girl group sound but with more energy. Most people will know the tracks from the Demonstration Tapes album but these versions are better recorded and show the band moving forward. The last session from October 1983 was for Kid Jensen and again shows a band evolving but still with tunes that over forty years later are still loved and adored. All in all 14 perfectly rounded pop nuggets wrapped in a beautifully designed sleeve and poster by Paul Kelly.

    Demonstration Tapes

[engl] The return of the classic Demonstration Tapes double LP on vinyl from the one and only Dolly Mixture. Originally self released in 1984 – this 27 track set collects the band’s demos from 1979 to 1983 of perfectly executed pop, indie pop and ’60s girl group gems. The sound is raw but the charm and pure-pop songcraft manages to shine through. Dolly Mixture should have been massive – so just sit back and enjoy these charming songs that have aged like a fine wine. Original copies sell for silly money and even the Germs of Youth reissue sells for over £100. This reissue comes with a brand new sleeve design.

Remember This: The Singles Collection 1980 - 1984

[engl] 15 track album that compiles all of Dolly Mixture’s 7" and 12" released between 1980 and 1984 on Chrysalis, Respond Records, Dead Good Dolly Platters and Cordelia Records. If you bought all five original singles – you’d have no change from 200 pounds. Dolly Mixture sit somewhere between the Shangri-La’s and the Go-Go’s which appeals to Indie kids, Punks and 60’s girl group fans. Dolly Mixture toured with the Undertones, played John Peel’s 40th birthday party, recorded a wealth of true pop classics, gave U2 a support-act leg-up, wrote songs for Lena Zavaroni and influenced the whole riot grrrl movement, but floored by on-the-road illness, decooled by Captain Sensible and dismissed as ‘the Slits meet the Nolans’ by a UK music industry too hung up on black leather hipness.

[engl] Boy, if this is how actual fever dreams feel like, I‘ll never get a u shot again. This 4 piece band from Portland delivers a nearly perfect punk rock album with 8 songs that are sweet as candy, rough as diamonds and yet melodic as only Portland can do. The great voice from Jenny, who also plays guitar, is supported by 3 dudes who know a thing or two about Punk Rock as well. Featuring Sam Henry from the Wipers on drums! If you liked the No More Art record (RSR#051), you‘ve got good taste and you‘re de nitely gonna dig this one, too.

    DOWN AND AWAY

    Set to blow

    DR. SURE´S UNUSUAL PRACTICE

    Remember The Future Vol. 1 + 2

[engl] Melbourne new-wave art-punks Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice emerged from the Oz underground as a potent force and clarion voice with their 2019 debut The West, followed by 2020’s fiery (pun intended) EPs, Scomo Goes to Hawaii and While Aus Burns. Their powerful new album, Remember the Future? is a 31-minute whammy of 10 propulsive robo-punk anthems which document the dystopian absurdity of our times, informed by an innate hopefulness and staunch belief in a better future. Led by Dougal Shaw (also known as Marthouse label founder and guitarist for Cash Savage and the Last Drinks), Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice is a post-modern, post-punk, post-cynicism embodiment of Woody Guthrie’s folk polemic of “singing the news” -- expounded by Bob Dylan, Public Enemy and countless successors, but rooted in the oldest musical traditions of recounting and pamphleteering historical events. As Dougal explains, his songwriting is lyrically “reacting to whatever’s dominating the news feed, it’s all catastrophes and conspiracies. I’m trying to make some sense out of it, or at least document it.” A potent act of “laughtivism”, the satirical edge of Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice cuts through Murdoch media manipulation, Canberra corruption, capitalist collapse and fossil fuel fuckery. Bizzaro post-punk outfit Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice caps off a frenzied run of activity with its new LP Remember The Future? Vol. 1. + 2. Packed with off-beat instrumentation and on-point observational commentary, the record arrives at a time where the picture of our future has never been muddier. Receiving bad news from the doctor is one of my biggest fears. The foreboding dread of awaiting test results is a kind of terror that I prefer not to think about, but in the case of the LP from Melbourne’s Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice, this is news I’m keen to hear – even if it’s a dire diagnosis. Just under a year ago the talented four-piece (comprised of Miranda Holt on drums, Jake Suriano on bass, Jack Mccullagh on guitar, and Dr Sure himself – Dougal Shaw – on guitar and lead vocals) blessed the world with their debut LP The West, which wonderfully encapsulated the group’s style of off-the-wall dystopian robo-punk – a little bit absurd and a little bit surreal, but also a whole lot of fun. The group’s got a knack for theatrics that serve to heighten the listening experience, with Dr Sure positioning himself at the centre of a buzzing maelstrom of nervy activity (wiry guitar noodling, abrasive buzz and experimental sonic flourishes), leaning fully into the oddball outsider aesthetic the Unusual Practice peddles. This is dystopian punk for a society predicted to reach the grim precipice of collapse. Whether or not we tumble into the abyss, Dr Sure’s can’t say for sure – but you don’t need a doctorate to know that changes need to be made in order to survive. Dr Sure’s Unusual Practice is positioning itself as the “loose screw in this well-oiled machine”, rattling around to let us know that there’s a problem that needs investigating. Hopefully someone does before the idyllic future we all envision for ourselves becomes a fond memory of a time when hope existed.

    DRAMAMINE

    s/t
