    CYMBELINE

    1965 - 1971

Previously unreleased DIY homemade psychedelia, teenbeat and fuzz-psych/prog by this amazing Swedish band, 1965-1971!! Tracks like “Third Image” or “Look at the stars” are an incredible find for anyone into US garage-psych (they wouldn’t sound out of place on any Pebbles or Psychedelic Unknowns volume!) and others like “Flicka”, “Stolta Vingar” or “Mittuppslag” are top notch ‘70s fuzzed out Scandinavian psych/prog. We can’t believe that such fabulous stuff has remained hidden in a carboard box until now. Formed in the industrial town of Norrköping in the mid ‘60s, Cymbeline (also known as Motala Ström and W&J) only released a 45 in 1971 before breaking up. But during their existence, the band recorded a lot of stuff, included here for the first time along with their rare 45. Cymbeline was basically two guys, Michael Journath and Anders Weyde, who met in 1965 while they both played in beat bands. They started recording songs at Anders little home studio with help with some friends and that’s how songs like “Imagination” and “Look at the stars”, amazing examples of homemade teen-beat, were born. At the same time, Michael and Anders were feeling a bit tired of playing cover versions with their beat bands so decided to start recording more experimental stuff, using armchairs and furniture as percussion, sounds from seagulls and birds, an electric cocktail mixer, improvising lyrics…these incredible experiments were recorded as “Images”, including the killer garage-psych sounding “Third Image”.

    NEW TWEEDY BROTHERS

    The New Tweedy Bros!

100% uncut psychedelia and garagey, jangly folk–rock from 1968 Originally from Portland, the New Tweedy Brothers were formed by brothers Fred and Danny Lackaff plus Dennis Fagaly and Steve Ekman. In 1966, they relocated to San Francisco, where they were part of the exploding, nascent psychedelic Ballroom scene, influencing none other than Jerry Garcia and sharing stage with bands like The Warlocks (pre–Grateful Dead), Quicksilver and Big Brother among others. Upon returning to Oregon, they self–released in 1968 their only album, housed in a striking hexagonal, over–sized silver foil cover, now a holy grail between psychedelic collectors. Innocent vocal harmonies, fuzzy bass, jangly guitars, raga sounds...

    ELLISON

    Ellison

Blastin underground hard- rock from Canada, 1971. Ultra raw guitars and lots of attitude. Think Black Sabbath and Elias Hulk!! Ellison were formed in Montreal in late 1967 by Vincent Marandola, Richard Arcand, Robert Cager and Christian Tremblay. The band started playing quite frequently in and around Montreal, and actually played a few other gigs in Quebec. They recorded their one and only LP in 1971, originally released on Trans- World Records. Here's a welcome reissue of this rare and sought- after album. Newly remastered sound. Insert with liner notes and photos. LP housed in an old- school- style tip- on sleeve. "They come across as cavemen with big amps, which of course isn't a bad thing within a heavy rock framework...One of the best hard rock LPs from anywhere in the world..." - Clark Faville

    UTHER PENDRAGON

    San Francisco Earthquake

This is the incredible story of Uther Pendragon: a lost psychedelic band from San Francisco whose music has remained buried until now. Formed in the Bay Area in 1966 as a teen garage group called Blue Fever, Uther Pendragon lasted from 1966 until 1978. During that time, the band went through different names and phases, as their music evolved from garage to psychedelia to hard-rock: they were known as Blue Fever, Timne, Hodological Mandala, Mandala, Kodiac, Justus, Pendragon…but the core of the band remained always the same: Mark Lightcap (rhythm guitar, vocals), Bruce Marelich (lead guitar, vocals) and Martin Espinosa (bass, vocals) who after finding their ultimate drummer on Mike Beers, finally settled on the Uther Pendragon name in the early 70s. But despite being in active for all that time and recording lot of tapes and demos at different studios (including their own one in Palo Alto), Uther Pendragon never released any recording at the time. They’re not even a footnote on the books about the San Francisco Sound or a small name at those psychedelic posters of the time. Nothing. It’s as if they never existed. Until now. Their complex and fascinating story, which involves winning a Bay Area Battle Of The Bands and playing with Country Joe & The Fish, recording a killer garage-psych 7” acetate in 1967, going to the legendary Pacific Sound Recording studios in 1969 to record a demo, living as a family in the same house for many years and rehearsing 7 days a week, building their own recording studio and music corporation, being managed by Craig Pedersen (Something Wild, Tripsichord Music Box), being involved in an occult-themed rock opera called Sabbat, and much more, is being told with all details by Mike Stax from Ugly Things in the extensive liner notes.

    DERDIYOKLAR IKILISI

    Çoban Mamos

Turkish Bar or Bengi folk dancing requires approximately 100 people to do properly, and it helps if a lot of them are eating wedding cake. You put your arms around the shoulders of the people on either side of you, and then stomp around in a circle, facing in and kicking the air, until everybody is exhausted and happy. Far away from any folklore festivals, Derdiyoklar hand- built the soundtrack to this dancing as it was drunkenly executed by luckless German- Turkish immigrants in the fashion- insensitive 80s. And though the band had only two members, they decided electric saz, synthesized drums, cimbalom, and sheep sound effects were all needed to get the job done. Who could argue? This tinkly and psychoactive album, full of uniquely odd overdubs and buzzy, flanged- out guitar solos, can now be yours. First time ever reissue. Sound taken from mastertapes, insert with liner notes, 180gr vinyl.

    THUNDERTREE

    Thundertree

Coming from the same Minneapolis 60s scene which spawned bands like The Litter, Thundertree evolved from garage band The Good Idea. In 1970 they released their sole album for the Roulette label: a perfect example of the transition from psychedelia to hard- rock and early progressive sounds. Killer fuzzed out guitar, organ, powerful vocals?Including hard- psych classics like ?In the morning? or ?Room at the top of the stairs? along with the monstruous 17 minute long ?2025? suite. For this, the first ever legit vinyl reissue of Thundertree, we?ve included two previously unreleased tracks: ?Pepper Palace? (a great psychedelic number) plus a storming cover of ?Sixteen Tons?, which was the signature song on Thundertrees live shows. Both tracks were recorded at UA Studios, Minneapolis, in 1970.

    IZUKAITZ

    Izukaitz

What a wonderful album this is!!! The first album by Basque folk group Izukaitz, originally released on the Xoxoa label in 1978. Strongly into traditional Basque folk but adding some rock elements to it; they use traditional instruments like Txirula or Alboka, but some psychedelic backwards guitar too. Beautiful male/female vocals also, entirely sung in Basque language. This group will sure remind you on the best moments of British folk legends like Fairport Convention or Steeleye Span. This is the first ever vinyl reissue, for which we've used the original mastertapes and of course it comes in original artwork with its gatefold cover. Limited to 500 copies.

    ONE WAY TICKET

    Time is right

Behind this obscure and mysterious British late- sixties psych record, we find the team of producers Brian Carroll and Damon Lyon- Shaw, famous for their involvement with mod- psych bands like Factory and Five Day Rain. During the late sixties, they also recorded some tracks of their own at the legendary IBC studios and produced a bunch of underground groups for their Homegrown company. Basically, instead of a real group, One Way Ticket was in fact a mixture of various recordings from bands that Carroll and Lyon- Shaw had been involved with producing through Homegrown during 1968, along with some recordings of their own. For some strange reason, all of these recordings surfaced many years later, when they were gathered and released as a budget pressing album, featuring a mysterious cover art and made- up liner notes & credits, under the One Way Ticket name on the President label in 1978. Musically, its an odd album which ranges from late- sixties underground psych in the Chocolate Soup vein to freaky blues- psych not unlike Olivers Standing Stone? with some glam- mod- psych and rockin? tunes. It even features three tracks also covered by the legendary Five Day Rain on their rare album. Reissued with original artwork and remastered sound.

    TREE PEOPLE

    Human voices

Watch out for this rarity. You know the Tree People, late 70s predecessors of the ongoing new folk movement in the USA. You know their 1979 debut album and you know it's a masterpiece?.. but oh well, did you know about their second album??? Surely not, especially because it was a cassette only release at the time with a very short print. Luckily enough, the Tree People guys kept the mastertapes of these recordings and we're proud to be making this wonderful music available now. Vinyl version will come later, here's the CD with splendid sound quality. The music here is equally as good, if not better, than the self- titled debut and a real must for any folk and psych- folk lover. Acoustic guitars, subtile percussions, wonderful flute work and some warm vocals, but overall a real big dose of quality and originality that makes the Tree People music be absolutely ahead of its time and therefore so much admired today. A real beauty! The CD comes with a booklet including liners by the band's leader Stephen Cohen, as well as some pictures.

    Thoughts

After cutting his teeth in several rock and folk bands since the late Sixties (Hush, Tail Toddle), Dutch singer / songwriter Jan Duindam released his first solo album in 1978 for the tiny Munich label. With help from local musician Guus Willemse of progressive band Solution, who played bass, drums and synth, Jan created Thoughts?: psychedelic folk- rock / acid- folk with stunning guitar playing and fragile, dreamy vocal harmonies. Features ?Happiness and tears?, a track selected by modern neo- folk / indie- rock stars Midlake for their ?Late Night Tales? mix. Remastered sound, gatefold sleeve, insert with photos and detailed liner notes. Jan crafted a quiet masterpiece that exists in its own soft, reflective realm? Hugh Dellar

    Haul ar yr eira

Easily one of the most exciting psychedelic folk- rock albums from the UK, this is the debut disc by Welsh fellows Pererin, dated 1980. Entirely sung in Welsh language (like all their discography, all available through Guerssen), this definitely has the more 70's sound of them all. Has lovely male and female vocals, strong celtic influences adding some great electric lead guitar, as well as fantastic flute and violin work. A total masterpiece in the folk- psych genre, and stunning original artwork as well!!!

    PERERIN

    Yng ngolau dydd

Welsh folk- prog group Pererin are still not known to have released a 4th album in their career?. and thats because it was only released on cassette, and most of the copies remained shelved without distribution. But its a wonderful album and here we are to rescue that music before its too late! Released in the mid 80s, Yng ngolau dydd is the most traditional work by Pererin. On this one you won?t find electric guitar, or keyboards. This is much more traditional Welsh folk, with strong use of mandoline, as well as electric guitar, percussions, violin and some flute as well. A strong album, featuring some tracks that might be among the best of the groups whole repertory, like the instrumental closing track, which still has the relaxing prog feel of some earlier works. Now released in a 500 limited CD only pressing, with mastertape sound and new artwork.

    TRUCK

    Surprise, surprise

Limited reissue of the sole album by this mysterious early 70s band from Malaysia. It was featured in the last Hans Pokora ''Collector Dreams'' book, causing a big stir in the psych collecting circles, as original copies are nowhere to be found. This is a real popsike gem with ultra melodic & catchy english beatlesque vocals, totally UK Psych late sixties atmosphere featuring awesome songwriting, great studio arrangements, moody orchestrations, fuzz and wah- wah guitar and great use of electric piano, keyboards & weird analog synth- Moog which gives the album a wonderful unique vibe. A must for all people into the more melodic psych- pop sounds, think We All Together, Aerovons, Kaleidoscope UK, Fairlfield Parlour, Gary Walker & The Rain, Badfinger...no hype here, check this album right now!!!

    AGAMENON

    Todos ríen de mí

Hippie group from Madrid, this is no doubt the most acid psychedelic rock album recorded in Spain in the 70's. This is their sole album, originally released in 1975 on the Explosion label and a very rare and collectable item. No one knew anything about the group members until now, it had been even rumoured to be some Argentinian guys living in Spain...but no, the group was formed by 2 female and 4 male and the brainhead was Carlos Garcia, who sadly passed away not long ago and to whom this reissue is dedicated. 10 tracks, 8 of them in English and 2 in Spanish, all originals and fantastic; there's lots of heavy acid fuzz guitar here, probably the wildest fuzz recorded in Spain (''Todos rien de mi'', ''Send me'' or ''I need money''), and also some great sunshine psych- pop (''Cuco go fly'', ''Al salir el sol''), and it's all very well packed with some of the best multi- vocal harmonies you can find in a Spanish record ever. A truely fantastic album that we strongly recommend!!! This first ever reissue comes with an insert with some never- seen- before pictures and infos about the band, plus a repro of a very rare band poster. Dig the cover artwork too!!!
