    TROPICS, THE

    As time's gone

Hailing from Florida, The Tropics were one of the finest 60s garage bands. Their memorable concerts are still remembered today by the lucky ones who saw them at the time. Between 1965 and 1969, they recorded some explosive and now legendary 45s which are prime examples of garage- rock, teen- beat, folk- rock and proto- psych sounds. Here you?ll find most of those 45 sides along with some rare, previously unreleased on vinyl tracks. Including the classic ?As times gone? (covered by The Fuzztones) and many more. Remastered sound in mono, insert with detailed liner notes by Jeremy Cargill (Ugly Things) and rare photos.

    MU

    Mu

West Coast psychedelia / bluesy acid–rock by this true hippie band leaded by the legendary Merrell Fankhauser (Fapardokly, HMS Bounty) and genius guitar player Jeff Cotton (Captain Beefheart Magic Band). This is their classic and sought after first album from 1971. Remastered sound, insert with lyrics, photos and extensive liner notes by Patrick Lundborg. "The mix of bluesy urban LA exhaust fume vibes and tribal desert mystique is as archetypal an early 1970s SoCal trip as you can find. With strong songwriting and a pro–level recording, the album is given a clear musical identity via the excellent slide guitar, harmony vocals, and occasional sax" Patrick Lundborg (Acid Archives)

    FAPARDOKLY

    Fapardokly

Fapardokly is probably regarded as the most important release in Merrell Fankhauser’s long career, and an absolute collector’s item. The band recorded about 30 tracks in a small studio in Palmdale, California, from 1965 to 1967, when the owner of the studio decided to release an album with some of these tracks. With such different recording dates, you find here different sounds....organized 60’s pop, jangly folk–rock, psychedelia... a truly fantastic album that finally gets, for the first time, a legit vinyl reissue and with the original artwork. Comes with an insert featuring photo from Merrell’s personal archive, and linernotes by him as well.

    ACTION

    Rolled Gold

The legendary 1967–68 recordings by UK mod band THE ACTION, registered when they were in transition from mod–beat to full–blown psychedelia, just prior to becoming MIGHTY BABY. Originally recorded as a set of demos with the intention of obtaining an album deal which inexplicably never materialized, "Rolled Gold" is a collection of brilliant songs, melancholic yet powerful. The Action’s classic line–up of Reg King, Alan ’Bam’ King, Michael Evans and Roger Powell is augmented with the inclusion of new members Martin Stone on guitar and Ian Whiteman on flute / organ. All of them are playing their hearts out: superb harmonies, great guitar work and clever arrangements which show the influence of bands like The Byrds and the psychedelic sounds that were coming from the West Coast and UK as well as jazz giants like Coltrane. Always the stuff of legend, The "Rolled Gold" tapes were shelved at the time, not released until 1997 when the Dig The Fuzz label discovered them and did a limited LP/CD run. Out of print on vinyl for many years, we present a new vinyl edition. If you dig the psychedelic era of SMALL FACES, PRETTY THINGS, THE WHO, plus THE CREATION, NAZZ, TOMORROW, BLOSSOM TOES, THE END or TRAFFIC...look no further.

    BIXBY, DAVE

    Ode to Quetzalcoatl (US Cover)

Since its discovery in the late 90s, Dave Bixby’s legendary $2000 private press album from 1969 is considered by all serious record collectors as the king in the loner/downer folk genre. After being involved in 60s Michigan folk and garage–rock bands such as The Shillelaghs and Peter & The Prophets, Bixby started playing acoustic guitar and experimenting with LSD. After a year of drug abuse he felt broken. Starting a soul–searching, spiritual journey, he wrote "Ode to Quetzalcoatl" and most of the material for his second album, Harbinger’s "Second Coming" in just one month and a half. Assisted by fellow musician Brian MacInness, who played some guitar parts on the album, Dave recorded "Quetzalcoatl" using a echo–laden four track machine in a flat’s living room. The sound is lo–fi and sparse: just acoustic guitars and some occasional harmonica & flute, added to Bixby’s haunting, emotional vocals, spiritual lyrics and solid songwriting. The opening cut, the eerie and painful "Drug Song" sets the mood perfectly for the rest of the album which contains more tormented titles like "666" , "Lonely faces", Open Doors", "Secret forest"...Never an acoustic folk album sounded so intense as this. Carefully remastered sound from vinyl (no master tapes exists) done at Shadoks Music Studios, insert with extensive and detailed liner notes by Matvei Procak – the guy who found Bixby in 2006 – plus some rare pictures.

    CYMBELINE

    1965 - 1971

Previously unreleased DIY homemade psychedelia, teenbeat and fuzz-psych/prog by this amazing Swedish band, 1965-1971!! Tracks like “Third Image” or “Look at the stars” are an incredible find for anyone into US garage-psych (they wouldn’t sound out of place on any Pebbles or Psychedelic Unknowns volume!) and others like “Flicka”, “Stolta Vingar” or “Mittuppslag” are top notch ‘70s fuzzed out Scandinavian psych/prog. We can’t believe that such fabulous stuff has remained hidden in a carboard box until now. Formed in the industrial town of Norrköping in the mid ‘60s, Cymbeline (also known as Motala Ström and W&J) only released a 45 in 1971 before breaking up. But during their existence, the band recorded a lot of stuff, included here for the first time along with their rare 45. Cymbeline was basically two guys, Michael Journath and Anders Weyde, who met in 1965 while they both played in beat bands. They started recording songs at Anders little home studio with help with some friends and that’s how songs like “Imagination” and “Look at the stars”, amazing examples of homemade teen-beat, were born. At the same time, Michael and Anders were feeling a bit tired of playing cover versions with their beat bands so decided to start recording more experimental stuff, using armchairs and furniture as percussion, sounds from seagulls and birds, an electric cocktail mixer, improvising lyrics…these incredible experiments were recorded as “Images”, including the killer garage-psych sounding “Third Image”.

    The New Tweedy Bros!

100% uncut psychedelia and garagey, jangly folk–rock from 1968 Originally from Portland, the New Tweedy Brothers were formed by brothers Fred and Danny Lackaff plus Dennis Fagaly and Steve Ekman. In 1966, they relocated to San Francisco, where they were part of the exploding, nascent psychedelic Ballroom scene, influencing none other than Jerry Garcia and sharing stage with bands like The Warlocks (pre–Grateful Dead), Quicksilver and Big Brother among others. Upon returning to Oregon, they self–released in 1968 their only album, housed in a striking hexagonal, over–sized silver foil cover, now a holy grail between psychedelic collectors. Innocent vocal harmonies, fuzzy bass, jangly guitars, raga sounds...

    Ellison

Blastin underground hard- rock from Canada, 1971. Ultra raw guitars and lots of attitude. Think Black Sabbath and Elias Hulk!! Ellison were formed in Montreal in late 1967 by Vincent Marandola, Richard Arcand, Robert Cager and Christian Tremblay. The band started playing quite frequently in and around Montreal, and actually played a few other gigs in Quebec. They recorded their one and only LP in 1971, originally released on Trans- World Records. Here's a welcome reissue of this rare and sought- after album. Newly remastered sound. Insert with liner notes and photos. LP housed in an old- school- style tip- on sleeve. UTHER PENDRAGON

    San Francisco Earthquake

This is the incredible story of Uther Pendragon: a lost psychedelic band from San Francisco whose music has remained buried until now. Formed in the Bay Area in 1966 as a teen garage group called Blue Fever, Uther Pendragon lasted from 1966 until 1978. During that time, the band went through different names and phases, as their music evolved from garage to psychedelia to hard-rock: they were known as Blue Fever, Timne, Hodological Mandala, Mandala, Kodiac, Justus, Pendragon…but the core of the band remained always the same: Mark Lightcap (rhythm guitar, vocals), Bruce Marelich (lead guitar, vocals) and Martin Espinosa (bass, vocals) who after finding their ultimate drummer on Mike Beers, finally settled on the Uther Pendragon name in the early 70s. But despite being in active for all that time and recording lot of tapes and demos at different studios (including their own one in Palo Alto), Uther Pendragon never released any recording at the time. They’re not even a footnote on the books about the San Francisco Sound or a small name at those psychedelic posters of the time. Nothing. It’s as if they never existed. Until now. Their complex and fascinating story, which involves winning a Bay Area Battle Of The Bands and playing with Country Joe & The Fish, recording a killer garage-psych 7” acetate in 1967, going to the legendary Pacific Sound Recording studios in 1969 to record a demo, living as a family in the same house for many years and rehearsing 7 days a week, building their own recording studio and music corporation, being managed by Craig Pedersen (Something Wild, Tripsichord Music Box), being involved in an occult-themed rock opera called Sabbat, and much more, is being told with all details by Mike Stax from Ugly Things in the extensive liner notes.

    DERDIYOKLAR IKILISI

    Çoban Mamos

Turkish Bar or Bengi folk dancing requires approximately 100 people to do properly, and it helps if a lot of them are eating wedding cake. You put your arms around the shoulders of the people on either side of you, and then stomp around in a circle, facing in and kicking the air, until everybody is exhausted and happy. Far away from any folklore festivals, Derdiyoklar hand- built the soundtrack to this dancing as it was drunkenly executed by luckless German- Turkish immigrants in the fashion- insensitive 80s. And though the band had only two members, they decided electric saz, synthesized drums, cimbalom, and sheep sound effects were all needed to get the job done. Who could argue? This tinkly and psychoactive album, full of uniquely odd overdubs and buzzy, flanged- out guitar solos, can now be yours. First time ever reissue. Sound taken from mastertapes, insert with liner notes, 180gr vinyl.

    MUNSON, ALAN

    Good morning world

Alan Munson, the songwriter of Cooley- Munson duo, continued the folk- rock way. It took him some time, but in 1975 he was ready for what is (for him, and for me too), his best 70s work. We at Guerssen believe this is a killer album!!! Incredibly, ?Good morning world? was only released in cassette, and in a limited run?.so I bet no one of you has this yet! Under these circumstances, I?m so glad to put this out at last the way it should be (and also on CD, fine), and I?m sure you our beloved customers will appreciate this too!!! Good morning world? includes nine original, acoustic based songs with a mellow psych and folk rock sound across this album. Meaningful and understandable lyrics, delivered by ?close- up? lead vocals, and background harmony vocals. Instruments played on the album include 6 string acoustic guitar, 12 string acoustic guitar, electric bass and percussion. Song arrangements include multiple guitar harmony lead solos and fills. Limited 500 copies vinyl pressing comes with an insert with linernotes and unseen photos.

    TREE PEOPLE

    Human voices

Watch out for this rarity. You know the Tree People, late 70s predecessors of the ongoing new folk movement in the USA. You know their 1979 debut album and you know it's a masterpiece?.. but oh well, did you know about their second album??? Surely not, especially because it was a cassette only release at the time with a very short print. Luckily enough, the Tree People guys kept the mastertapes of these recordings and we're proud to be making this wonderful music available now. Vinyl version will come later, here's the CD with splendid sound quality. The music here is equally as good, if not better, than the self- titled debut and a real must for any folk and psych- folk lover. Acoustic guitars, subtile percussions, wonderful flute work and some warm vocals, but overall a real big dose of quality and originality that makes the Tree People music be absolutely ahead of its time and therefore so much admired today. A real beauty! The CD comes with a booklet including liners by the band's leader Stephen Cohen, as well as some pictures.

    HOMER

    Grown in U.S.A Plus Bonus

With their roots traced in two legendary 60s garage bands, The Outcasts and The Stoics, Homer were without doubt one the best psychedelic / hard- rock outfits coming out from Texas. ?Grown in U.S.A? was their only album, released as a private pressing in 1970. Rural psychedelic rock with early prog hints fuelled by stunning lead / dual guitar, melodic vocals and occasional mellotron. We present this collectable album in a 2LP expanded edition including their early singles - which are prime examples of 60s Texan garage- psych - plus previously unreleased studio demo tracks, recorded at the same time as the album. Newly remastered sound especially for this vinyl release, gatefold sleeve with detailed liner notes and rare pictures. 180gr vinyl.

    TREE PEOPLE

    It's my story

Fathers of freak folk / folk psych pioneers The Tree People have incredibly made it again. Responsible of two awesome works in the late 70's and early 80's, here they are now with a new album and we can tell you sound exactly as they did 30 years ago. This could be their best work ever. Mellow, tender freak folk with acoustic guitar, double bass, recorder, flute and percussion. Eleven new tracks, plus a new version of ''Space heater'' which was in their 1979 debut. Includes insert with photos and liners both by band leader Stephen Cohen and folk- psych connoisseur Gerald Van Waes.

    DRANSFIELD, BARRY

    Barry Dransfield

In 1972, Barry Dransfield recorded his debut solo album. Just called ''Barry Dransfield'', the album is a real delight from start to finish. It features an array of traditional songs arranged by Barry, some original ones and some fantastic covers from people like Michael Hurley (''The werewolf'') and David Ackles (''Be my friend''). Sadly, the album was deleted just after nine months from his initial release, because it was released on Folk Mill, a Polydor sublabel created to enter the folk field, but the Polydor guys realized soon that this was not his business, and deleted their whole catalog immediately (including also the C.O.B. Moyshe McStiff? album). Needless to say, the album has become a true rarity and a collector's item since then. Record Hunter voted him ''the rarest folk album'' and Tapestry Of Delights book described it as ''along with Vashti Bunyan's ''Just a diamond day'', this debut solo album, full of enchanting folk, is one of the two most sought after major label folk albums''. This wonderful album was reissued some years ago in a limited vinyl run of 500 that were disappeared at the first day without even entering UK & USA stores, as it was sold entirely to Japan. Now we're very happy to announce our new reissue , plus an insert with linernotes. A stunning release to add to our no- filler growing catalog. Absolutely indispensable!

    IRISH COFFEE

    Irish Coffee

    01. Here's the first ever authorized vinyl reissue of this classic. Excellent vintage hard 02. rock made in Belgium in 1971 and originally released in the Triangle label. Their sound was clearly influenced by Deep Purple or even Uriah Heep, with killer guitar all over and good use of organ. This has been considered as a key album in the hard 03. rock field since the early days of collecting, with originals fetching really some money! High 04. quality reissue in 180g vinyl, nice carton with real original artwork (unlike Akarma boot which was poorly designed), insert with liners and photos.

    ONE WAY TICKET

    Time is right

Behind this obscure and mysterious British late- sixties psych record, we find the team of producers Brian Carroll and Damon Lyon- Shaw, famous for their involvement with mod- psych bands like Factory and Five Day Rain. During the late sixties, they also recorded some tracks of their own at the legendary IBC studios and produced a bunch of underground groups for their Homegrown company. Basically, instead of a real group, One Way Ticket was in fact a mixture of various recordings from bands that Carroll and Lyon- Shaw had been involved with producing through Homegrown during 1968, along with some recordings of their own. For some strange reason, all of these recordings surfaced many years later, when they were gathered and released as a budget pressing album, featuring a mysterious cover art and made- up liner notes & credits, under the One Way Ticket name on the President label in 1978. Musically, its an odd album which ranges from late- sixties underground psych in the Chocolate Soup vein to freaky blues- psych not unlike Olivers Standing Stone? with some glam- mod- psych and rockin? tunes. It even features three tracks also covered by the legendary Five Day Rain on their rare album. Reissued with original artwork and remastered sound.

    DUINDAM, JAN

    Thoughts

After cutting his teeth in several rock and folk bands since the late Sixties (Hush, Tail Toddle), Dutch singer / songwriter Jan Duindam released his first solo album in 1978 for the tiny Munich label. With help from local musician Guus Willemse of progressive band Solution, who played bass, drums and synth, Jan created Thoughts?: psychedelic folk- rock / acid- folk with stunning guitar playing and fragile, dreamy vocal harmonies. Features ?Happiness and tears?, a track selected by modern neo- folk / indie- rock stars Midlake for their ?Late Night Tales? mix. Remastered sound, gatefold sleeve, insert with photos and detailed liner notes. Jan crafted a quiet masterpiece that exists in its own soft, reflective realm? Hugh Dellar
