    RANK/XEROX

    Servants In Heaven

[engl] On their first release since 2017, the elusive RANK/XEROX treat us to two delightfully dreary pop tunes that present a Factory/4AD gloom with an icy silver lining. There is hope in the notes but what lingers most is a dystopian trod through life on Earth in 2019. The resiliency of humanity is inspiring but will that be enough to keep us all going? Probably not. The fatal flaw of humanity is, well, that it is human at its core. Let's dance? 350 black and 150 transparent green vinyl records housed in a 12pt reverse board glue pocket sleeve with an 11x17 poster and download card included. Recorded by the band. Mixed by Mikey Young. Mastered by Joe Carra. Art by Kevin McCarthy.

    RASHOMON

    Nin-Gen

[engl] Much like the classic Japanese bands we all know and love, RASH?MON has never rushed to release anything. They wait until the time is right to completely raze your dome with their densely packed Tokyo via DC hardcore. (Did DEATH SIDE ever cover an ARTIFICIAL PEACE song? Probably not but if they did it might sound something like this. Maybe. Anyway...) Add the absolutely sloth-like pandemic production schedule and that had us frothing for ages. Almost long enough to give up and go home but that would be foolish since that is just not what punk does. Careening effortlessly between anthemic and cerebral, despair and optimism - "Nin-Gen" provides a destructive, cathartic release from the ugliness that has become our day-to-day existence, as well as fostering just enough anger and hope within us to make tomorrow worth fighting for. 500 copies on 150gr black vinyl with an etched B-side housed in a 24pt reverse board jacket with riso print poster insert and download card included.

    Pathogen X

[engl]  The combination of all their previous work and a steady live band has come together to form the great Henge Beat LP. Beautifully housed in a bright European-art-designed gatefold sleeve. These guys have outdone themselves with this one. Musically it rests somewhere between late 70's UK new wave a-la Ha Ha Ha era ULTRAVOX and the "now sound" EDDY CURRENT SUPPRESSION RING Aussie garage that we all know and love. Add a dash of hopeful Krautrock flavor and the recipe is a smashing success. We could not be happier to offer this perfect execution to you.

Without prompting, here are some of the highlights that got spit back at us: “Aggro midtempo noise. ROHT

    Ionsamfélagio Og Framtío Pess

[engl]  Iðnsamfélagið Og Framtíð Þess which roughly translates to "Industry and its Future", is taking the oddity and isolationism of hardcore punk and industrial noise and smashing them even further together than they did on previous releases. This is the sound of a band perfecting its approach to the world. And we can't get enough. At first listen it is what seems to be a simple formula of bass, noise, drums and vocals but as you continue to listen, delicate layers of depression, life, anger, creativity, emergence and deconstruction begin to unfold until you find yourself trapped in a dystopian clamor void of hellish nothingness. Industry and its future indeed. 350 copies on black and 150 copies on translucent green 150gr vinyl housed in a 24pt reverse board jacket with printed inner sleeve and download card included.

[engl] Stomping isolationist noise punk with a raging undercurrent of industry and primitivism from Reykjavik. This new ep, their first, shows a much noisier and angrier side of what was once an industrial solo project. All sung in Icelandic. Along with Dauðyflin, these folks are fostering a cold hardcore outsider vibe in a place that has had a rich tradition of punk/pop that's not widely known for it. A truly exciting discovery. Never under estimate the remote reaches of our community, you'll be zapped every time. 500 copies of heavy duty lacquer mastered black vinyl and glued pocket sleeve with art by Þórir Georg sit inside a hand embossed sealed envelope. ROTARY CLUB

    American Tower

[engl] As a massive early Killed By Death style punk fanatic, constantly in pursuit of the ever elusive records and one-off-obscuro sound, I frequently turn up my nose at modern bands playing the style. You can't just crap out a poorly recorded generic riff punk track, slap a "KBD" label on it and expect me to fall for the ruse. I mean bands have done that and had varying degrees of wool pull - see The Uncalled 4's "Grind Her Up" 7" for the best success of this - but it doesn't usually work out. What I particularly enjoy about Rotary Club is that they rework the lyrics into all things landline telephone while heavily referencing the riffage from the genre's top tier tunes, twisting them just enough to make them their own. A refreshing and well executed take to say the least.

Collective Unconsciousness speaks to a vast generation of sleeping strength and rusted mobility. It's time. Organize. Stand tall. Believe in your movement. Check your spelling. The fuzz fucked intro of last song, side A ("Scouts" -ed.) had me shermed up and ready to bust through a brick wall. As a whole 'Worship' brings to mind a broken pugilist pissing in an exhaust stained fountain and then fighting the cops with knuckles full of busted teeth. SHRINKWRAP KILLERS

Feral Rats Have Become Our Only Pets

[engl] On the "Stolen Electronics..." single we met our shrinkwrapped malefactor mid spree, filled with ire and intent. Since then, there has been a rash of strange occurrences and even some time travel that may or may not have resulted in our current pandemic situation. Like, we're not saying he single-handedly caused the world to turn upside down and stay inside but we're not NOT saying that either. Lucky for all of us, he came up on some fresh gear and wrote a few more downer garage punk space tunes to keep the gray matter from becoming completely egg smooth.

Corrosive hardcore music for the pit AND the pendulum recalling the stomping catchy vibes of recent luminaries like BOSTON STRANGLER or VIOLENT REACTION but channeling back to previous 80s hitters in the YOUTH OF TODAY/MINOR THREAT vein too. All with an absolutely visceral feminine, ahem... slant to it. Ha, I couldn't resist that one. SLOI

    Sloi

[engl] Italy has never had a shortage of ripping hardcore bands and SLOI is no exception. Featuring members of IMPULSO, TUONO and ASTIO, SLOI execute furious D-beat hardcore punk, channeling the clamorous spirit of legends past, such as WRETCHED, NEGAZIONE, INDIGESTI and STIGMATHE. They don’t let their influences overshadow their own work, however, which is firmly rooted in the eternal state of horrifying affairs. Hailing from Trento, SLOI take their name from a lead factory that poisoned the area over 40 years ago, called Società Lavorazioni Organiche Inorganiche. Many of its workers died of lead poisoning, while others took their own life in the Pergine Asylum, where they were being treated as mentally ill. SLOI vocalize seven nightmarish tracks in their native tongue, arguably one of the finest languages for spiting out hardcore punk, and each one will have you gripping the edge of your seat in white-knuckled fury. Swaying between full-blow D-beat assaults, complete with wall-of-noise fuzz, and pit-and-pogo ready bangers to satisfy your knuckle-dragging urges, they possess a razor-sharp production that is satisfyingly noisy and reverbed. In turn, each track assembles some of the finest features of the genre, hitting hard with nail-biting intensity: the drums crash on you like a pound of bricks, the guitars manically pace between savage riffs and crunchy chords you can sink your teeth into, and the bass is laid down throbbing and thick, pounding at your chest like an shock wave from a lead factory that’s just collapsed in a fire. Atop the wreckage stand SLOI, along with a cohort of peers currently flying the black flag of Italian hardcore resistance.

    SMIRK

    E.P.

[engl] Smirk is a solo project from Nic Vicario (CEMENTO). Following the release of ‘LP’ on Feel It (US) and Drunken Sailor (EU/UK) earlier this year, Smirk is back with a brand new EP. While ‘LP’ compiled Smirk’s two limited run cassettes, ‘EP’ is seven fresh tracks of wiry well-crafted punk with heaps of hooks. Sharp guitars and anxious one note leads adding tension to the locked in propulsive groove of the bass and drums. Nic Vicario, doing his best ‘man on wire’ routine, exudes cool confidence while poking at the anxieties of modern life. Strutting his way to the apocalypse one jittery jam at a time, ‘EP’ is agitated, catchy, and bouncy as hell. 200 pro-printed clear/clear cassettes housed in a color J-Card inside a Norelco box. SPIRITO DI LUPO

    4 Songs

[engl] Dishevelled, mid-tempo punk has a way of getting under your skin and SPIRITO DI LUPO are the perfect representatives. Raw and snarling, they play short and snappy hardcore punk inspired by the ’80s Italian sound. Based between Milan and Bologna, SPIRITO DI LUPO features members of KOBRA, SKALP, CERIMONIA SECRETA, HORROR VACUI, TUONO and an array of other fine projects. This diverse musical background serves SPIRITO DI LUPO well, as they lurk and jerk between the angry edge of hardcore and the darker dwellings of anarcho punk. Mixing the raw with the rudimentary, their compositions are as ominous and sulky as they are ecstatic and wild. This mix works unusually well and, as a result, their five tracks manage to sound both militant and frolicingly chaotic. Sharp, catchy, almost psychedelic riffs meet a strong and brooding bass, which in turn complements the primitive and raucous drumming. The dual male and female vocals take this notion one step further, with the deep, slurring and sarcastic male vocals contrasting effectively with the strident, more urgent female ones. Their overall sound is aggressive and yet inviting, and this jovial ataxia is none more evident than on their redo of their opening track, “I miei occhi sono chiusi”. The atrocities of humanity often highlight the beauty of the world, and this paradoxical aesthetic comes through in SPIRITO DI LUPO’s artwork, lyrics and sound, complete with stormy weather field recordings on the closing track.

    In A Room

[engl] When The Steves' two extremely limited (maybe 100-200 of each??) EPs were released back in 1980 and '81 respectively, the squares around Harvard's newsroom were aghast at the audacity of this group. Having the stones to release such crudely-rhythmic, near mechanical and downright terse tunes in the day's often long winded prog rockin' ballad heavy radio reality that were too robotic to be “punk” and too unruly to be anything but was, to say the least, a bold move. Sure to cause an uproar in the halls, protests in the classroom and uninvited dancing in the streets! In the annals of New England's rock journalism, there is not a mountain of coverage on The Steves, certainly not as much as the Alan Parsons Project or Aerosmith, but the fact remains that they were a fully charged powder keg of raw energy and new musical direction that seemed to elude most of the world back then. Not to say they didn't get any light shone on them, they did get a fair amount of airplay on the college stations around Boston and even appeared on the cover of Boston Rock magazine. It is Iron Lung Records' distinct pleasure to offer the modern world a new chance to discover the ever vital and effervescent music of The Steves' initial EPs along with a third EP of songs never released on vinyl until now that were recorded at the time or shortly after the initial sessions. A true synth-punk/KBD treasure. Obscurity is for suckers. Let's get shakin'! 700 copies of each EP on black 70gr vinyl housed in a 12pt reverse board glue pocket sleeve with faithful reproductions of the original art.
