    Sorry to disappoint all music lovers

    It's always fascinating to see what great pop songs can hide in the garb of garagepunk. Dream Boogie, with their singalong-garage-pop-punk-powerpop simply manage that. After two seconds your first leg starts moving, after three and a half second the other leg is moving and after five seconds you’ll find yourself dancing in your room or optionally at the headphone station of the preferred record store. You can call it magic what this foursome Gothenburg based band is doing or just be delighted to be talking about all those little pearls that lays between the pop of M.O.T.O. to the sunshine psychedelic of The Black Lips. All this hides on their debut album and you’ll not get bored even when you’ve flipped the record for the hundredth time on the turntable. I would say "Sorry to disappoint all music lovers" saves every party. So now, go back to your system and turn the music up, even louder this time.

Nun zur Platte: Die sechs Belgier spielen eine dreckige Mischung aus klassischem 70er Jahre Hardrock, groovigem Southern Rock, Stoner, Punk und natürlich einer ordentlichen Portion Blues und holzen die zehn Songs über alles kurz und klein. Diese musikalische Zeitreise erscheint auf den ersten Blick gewöhnungsbedürftig, aber bereits der knackige Opener ??Back from the Grave?? rei?t derart mit und macht ??Accusation Blues?? schon jetzt verführerisch interessant.Namen wie LYNARD SKYNARD, die ROLLING STONES, hier und da ein wenig THE FREE oder frühe LED ZEPPELIN kommen einem an einigen Stellen spontan in den Sinn.     Die neue 10 inch „Tod im Garten“ von „Es war Mord“ erinnert in hellen Momenten, an eine alleinstehende Wespe, die nach getaner Arbeit, leicht alkoholisiert von faulem Obst in einer lauen Septembernacht um ein viel zu großes Problem schwirrt, intuitiv wissend, dass das alles nicht mehr lange dauern wird. Die Frage nun, ob der Ton ins Bild passt stellt sich in diesem Zusammenhang nicht. „es war Mord“ bleibt unstabil und das irrationale Ambiente Instrument der Strategie reibungslose Abläufe zu vermeiden. Ansonsten; „Es war Mord“ lehnt jede übertriebene Verantwortung ab, vielleicht auch weil: der wahre Sinn liegt im Unsinn . Die Platte wurde genau 666 hergestellt und als Grabbeigabe fungiert ein Rückenaufnäher.

    Es war Mord is a band from Berlin with two guitars, bass, drums and of course a singer. Es war Mord singing in German. The texts are often more phonetic arbitrariness than poetry. Es war Mord playing unpredictable bulky somber punk with many rhythm changes. The tonic keynote is almost always based on E minor, since it is the darkest and deepest chord you can play on a normally tuned guitar. Es war Mord finished a LP called "Unter Kannibalen", the original title "Erinnerungen des Agenten, der aus Notwehr mit den Kannibalen knutschte" was cut by the band because it was too long but although good. The artwork is the print of a woodcut with the title "Es lebe das 21. Jahrhundert " and is by Fritz Ebeling, a berlin artist and graduate student of Schmidt Rottluff, who died in 2011. Es war Mord are: Sepp, Dietmar, Markus, Tom and Stunk. Es war Mord previous bands: the Rest, Vorkriegsjugend, Zerstörte Jugend, Situations, Jingo de Lunch, Kumpelbasis, Porno Patrol, No Alligians and die Skeptiker.

    Between Aarhus and Bamako lie 6,593 kilometers – and a deep socio-economic divide. This is why people have long been drawn from Africa to Europe. Unfortunately, the opposite is rarely the case. “Sira Kura”, the debut album from the Danish-Malian band Faratuben, shows what is possible when musicians move out of their comfort zones and meet at eye level. The music from this Bamako-based band is not just another variation of Afrobeat, nor a retrospective reminiscence of Fela Kuti. It is an electrified version of the centuries-old Bwa and Bobo music, and differs from the traditional Kora sounds of a Toumani Diabaté and Salif Keïta with its increased pressure and tempo. The three Danes, Mikas Bøgh Olesen, Jakob de Place and Mads Voxen, came to Mali as part of an exchange program of the Conservatoire de Arts et Metiers Multimédia (CAMM), where they heard traditional Bobo music for the first time. Bobo is what the French colonizers called the Bwa people, an oppressed minority living in Burkina Faso and northern Mali. The percussive music of the Bwa is driven by various percussion instruments and the sound of the balofon, a type of xylophone with calabashes suspended below. The three Danish music students were completely enthralled with this dynamic sound that accompanies religious ceremonies as well as weddings and parties in Mali. Guitarist and studio owner Dieudonne Koita, vocalist Sory Dao and balofon virtuoso Kassim Koita, formed a band that was originally intended to perform only once: at the Bamako Jazz Festival. The name Bobo Jazz Experience was used on the posters at the time. But the performance was too grandiose not to continue. At the Bogolan Studio in downtown Bamako, the musicians recorded the songs “Terete” and “Pari” a short time later, which rapidly went into heavy rotation at the TV station ORTM and on various Malian radio stations. In the meantime the band had decided on the name Faratuben, a combination of the words “farafin” (black) and “toubabou” (white). The musicians often live and rehearse together in the mountains outside Bamako, in a village called Kati, which the Koita family calls home. The Koita family is a large clan that has produced many important musicians. “Electrification is quite new in our tradition, and the first person to play Bwa music on an electric guitar was our father, Pakuene Koita”, says Dieudonne. His brother Kassim has been voted best balofon player in Mali four times. Faratuben are also becoming more and more successful in Mali, playing at weddings, parties and increasingly at big festivals like “Spot on Mali Music”. In short, it was high time for a debut album! “Sira Kura” is extremely varied fusion, in which the pulsating polyrhythms of Bwa music are organically combined with elements of jazz and art pop – played at a dreamlike higher level. “A modern mix of 10CC and Osibisa”, as keyboarder Mikas calls it. And indeed, such overwhelming melodiousness and such complex songwriting is rarely found in Afrobeat. In Bambara, one of the many languages spoken in Mali, “Sira Kura” means “new direction”. But Faratuben is about more than parties and good moods. The rousingly combative “Mi Njan Mure Mure” tells of days when Mali was a French colony: “You took our land, you took our space, you torture us, you treated us with barbarity.” The musicians see their band as living anti-racism. As Dieudonne says: “I never thought before that I could meet white people on an equal footing and on one level. That white people live, eat and sleep in my house and live together with my family, just like I do. Such a thing is very rare in Mali. We are happy and proud that through Faratuben we can show that it is possible to create a community beyond race and skin color.” Meanwhile, the band has also gained a loyal fan base in Scandinavia. In Denmark, where the album was released last year, “Sira Kura” was awarded the Danish Music Award for the best “globalpop” album. And in August, the musicians also received a nomination for the DMA Roots Award. Faratuben are now back again after being stuck in Aarhus from March to August due to Corona, and could only return to Mali at the end of the month. In their luggage, they carry the songs for their second album, which were written during their quarantine. But, until then, “Sira Kura” will ensure that autumn in Germany sizzles. Bwa music rules!

    I want to say thanks. On 28.03. I launched the Sounds of Subterrania Artists Fund, a solidarity action for artists, affected by the effects of the Covid-19. Part of this project was the publication of a special artist edition, designed by Jochen Mönig and printed by Philip Janta. Now, almost 4 months later, I have it in my hands and it is needless to say, that it can now go on a journey to you. I want to say thank you for every donation. Your support actually helped and even if we didn't reach the goal, it was a big help for Faratuben and Bibi Ahmed. Real solidarity and humanity can always be recognized by the commitment to unknown people. That this was important to many of you means a lot to me and it makes me happy.     Who isn‘t familiar with Freddy Fischer and his Cosmic Rocktime Band, might need some words of introduction and guidance. Well, you hear Jazzrock which gets dragged on the dance-floor straightaway. You hear Disco. You hear that kind of casual elegance that you can also find in Manfred Krug’s songs of the seventies, when he presented the GDR with some Swing – at least for a brief moment. You just got to put all that into a fancy smoking and you have Freddy Fischer standing there. But unfortunately the recipe is not that easy. Otherwise you would hear such a snappy music on virtually every street corner with a whole choir of Fischer look- and soundalikes, not just the one Freddy. Anyway, the music has a certain groove. On the new record Freddy grinds the organ with such passion that Keith Emerson could only sorely look away. And Brian Auger would approvingly raise his eyebrows because he heard that he couldn’t teach Freddy how to get better on the keys. And the music is tight – Soul and mirror ball. The music glitters and plays – unlike Keith Emerson – only as much notes as needed to get the people on the dance floor. And then Freddy Fischer sings about love all the time and you got to have the courage to write a line like “Du bist meine Liebe, und ich lieb’ dich so” (“You’re my love and I love you so”). But Fischer just does it. You may want to call it Jazzrockdisco but it’s like the movies of the uncommunicative Finn Aki Kaurismäki: he’s the only one who could make such a movie; sentimental, warm and true. When someone else would try to do it, it would only be sentimental and become kitsch. But this comparison possibly is too far-reached and Freddy Fischer’s songs don’t want to be larger than they are. Because all of this can be – and with good reason – the plague: Jazzrock, Schlager and even Disco when it ruffles its feathers, becomes touchy-feely and pretentious. But this has got to be Freddy Fischer’s secret. And at the next show with him and his Cosmic Rocktime Band you’ll sing along to “Du bist meine Liebe, und ich lieb’ dich so”. It’s simply good, entertaining music from Berlin.

A man who is able to boil down the complexity of a whole genre with ease. A genre that like no other stands for freedom, for equality and acceptance. All the values that I treasure since years. A genre that doesn't care or judge whom you love, what color your skin is or how much money your parents or your boss pay you. A genre that sees you as what you are. As a human being. "As long as you act like a human being you can do what you want. That's the deal." said David Mancuso. And that is where the circle closes. "And when we dance, we dance the way we are ..."     „Snooze / Puppe“ ist die 9. Single Veröffentlichung der neuen Musikgruppe Gewalt. Diese Singleveröffentlichung kam zustande in einem großen Akt von Solidarität. Wie so oft betreten Gewalt (wie so oft unmerklich für den Hörer) neues Terrain. Auf den kranken Dub Reggea Groove von "Snooze" tritt erstmals die klare kalte Stimme von Helen Henfling in den Vordergrund. Neumitglied Jasmin Rilke macht sich bei ihrer ersten Gewaltaufnahme gleich unentbehrlich und zimmert auf Snooze ein 70ies Doom Bass Riff für die Ewigkeit. „Puppe“ ist das was Gewalt am liebsten tut: Old School Hip Hop. Am Ende ist es irgendwie immer Gewalt. Snooze Klingelt unser Wecker, stehen wir auf und tun was wir tun. Ob es uns gefällt oder nicht (unser Leben), wir sind der festen Überzeugung, dass das das Leben ist. Die andere Welt, die wir in unseren Träumen berühren, nehmen wir oft nicht wahr oder nicht ernst. Wir tun sie ab als jongliere unser Geist nur mit Gedanken. Was aber, wenn wir uns entscheiden endlos, liegen zu bleiben, den Wecker wieder und wieder ein weiteres Mal auf "Snooze" zu stellen. Wir beginnen unsere Träume zu leben und sie zu gestalten. Wir entscheiden uns für eine aufregendere intensivere Wirklichkeit und lassen die eigentliche Realität, diese "klebrige unklare Welt" hinter uns zurück. Puppe Ich weiss, wer ich bin - ich weiss, warum ich so geworden bin - ich kenne die Kräfte die auf mich einwirken. Bin ich krank? Ist krank sein normal? Was nützt meine Reflexion? Oft bleibt es unmöglich, sich der Liebe zu nähern, sei sie auch noch so greifbar
